Afrolatino Arts Online Course 2020

This 1-credit class is offered in collaboration with Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle and Union Cultural Center. It will be co-taught online by local artists from Brazil, Puerto Rico, and the Garifuna people. Students will attend twice-weekly classes over three weeks to learn drums, dances, and songs. They will also participate in online community dialogues about culture, race, and immigration with Seattle's Afrolatino communities and international artists. The class aims to promote dialogue between Afrolatino and Afro-indigenous arts.

Afrolatino and Afro-indigenous
Arts in Dialogue

Autumn 2020

Offered in Collaboration with


Movimiento Afrolatino Seattle (MAS)
and Union Cultural Center (UCC)

This class will be co-taught by a team of local


artists, and coordinated with a series of

Teaching Artists community dialogues organized by MAS.

Instruction is online, but students may borrow a


• Silvio dos Reyes & hand drum (such as a conga), if they don’t have

Students will attend twice-weekly classes for
