THE PROGRESSIVE TENSES.

Form : be + ing (present participle)


meaning : The progessive tense, give the idea that an action is in progress during a
particular time.
The tenses say that an action begins before, is in progress during, and
continue after another time or action and will probably end at some point in the future.

Example : Tom is repairing the trouble Engine right now.


(?) Is Tom repairing the trouble Engine right now?
(-) Tom is not repairing the trouble Engine right now.

When I say this sentence: Tom is in the Hangar. He is repairing not flying. The action “repairing” is
happening right now.

Is = helping verbs.
Repairing = the main verb.
Am, is, are + ing = the present progressive tense.
The present progressive tense is also called “ Present Continuous Tense “

Positive negative

I am (I’m) I am not (I’m not )

He (he’s) he (he’s not or he isn’t)


She is ( she’s) she is not (she’s not or she isn’t)
It positive (it’s ) it
question (it’s not or it isn’t)
