Ans. Eric imagined his thin grandpa leaning over a hole in the ground, a bucket by his side with the
sapling in it and gently parting the earth.
Q.2 What was Eric looking for when he rolled over to the bottom of the tree? Did he find it?
Ans. Eric was looking on the tree to find the place, he usually started his climb. Yes he found it, it was
peg.
Q.3 List the steps Eric takes to make his climb possible.
Ans. 1. He lifted his body out of wheelchair by pulling himself on the tree and reached the pegs
2. Climbed up most of the way by one hand reaching over the other.
3. He leaned his back against the trunk.
4. Lifted his left leg and then the right and sat in a correct position.

1. Knowing grandpa, he would have finished the job neatly, then brought over his lone chair
and sat and admired his work for a few hours smiling and watching the tree grow.
A) What does this sentence tell us?
Ans. Eric had lived with his grandfather. He missed his grandfather and he knew his
mannerisms well.
2. His mother began to cry. She pointed at Eric’s wheelchair and said, “That tree is coming
down- tomorrow!” and ran from the room.
A) Why did the mother cry and say this?
Ans. Mother said this because actually she did not want the tree to be cut.
3. “Grandpa would have loved what you did today”, mother said.
A) Why did she say this?
Ans. She said this because Eric had saved a tree.
