Insights from a Science Fair Project

Jeremy Wilde completed a science fair project where he learned several things. He learned that he has significant knowledge of science experiments, but lacked materials to replicate some experiments or understand complex explanations. Jeremy also learned that he should have more faith in his initial hypotheses, as he changed his view on his egg experiment just before conducting it, which proved to be wrong. Overall, Jeremy increased his understanding of what eggs can do, improved his PowerPoint skills, and recognized his relative weakness in science. He believes sharing a similar project with students could help them develop problem-solving skills and encourage thorough research.

Science Fair

I learned a lot through this project. First of all, I learned that I have a lot of knowledge regarding
science experiments. A lot of the ones I didn’t know I either lacked the material to reproduce
them, or they were so wildly out there I couldn’t understand what was being said. I also learned
that I shouldn’t doubt my initial thoughts and theories. I ended up going back on my original
hypothesis moments before we conducted the egg standing experiment and that was wrong of
me. I lacked the faith needed to carry on with my thoughts. All in all, I learned a lot about what
eggs can really do, I strengthened my abilities to create PowerPoint presentations, and I learned
that science is still one of my weaker subjects.

Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other
resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits.

I think I can use this to help students recognize problem solving as well as doing a ton of
research after their initial thoughts. I learned a lot about the shape of the egg and how it helps it
hold the weight necessary for you to be able to walk on it. I also think that PowerPoint is a great
source that may have been underutilized by my teachers when I went through school. I think it
can be very expressive and a fun way for students to present their findings to the whole class. I
really enjoyed this project and I think my students can benefit from doing something just like it.
