Monday Working on receiving samples, collect them,

‫االثنين‬ categorize it by the section that going to receive it,
14/6/2021 check barcode and entre it to the system and finally Main Laboratory Reception
delivered to the sections which is
-Microbiology lab
-Hematology lab
– Bloodbank
– serology
– molecular diagnostic lab
Tuesday Same Monday process will be repeated with extra
‫الثالثاء‬ tasks like signature on receiving book when the
15/6/2021 samples delivered to reception. Main Laboratory Reception
This task is very important to make sure that we
received all the samples and matches the request that
doctor give it to patient which is shown to us on the
system.
We don’t accept the samples that hasn’t requested by
the doctor.
Wednesday Microbiology lab is the heart of the hospital, different
‫األربعاء‬ samples from many places found there and all the

Receiving samples: (Reception area)
Every section at the lab have reception that connected
to the main system, microbiology lab system collect
different samples like (urine – stool – blood culture –
different type of swap).
 We enter the sample at the system by scan request
barcode then log in the date and time of receiving also
we print another barcode contain the order number

Thursday
‫الخميس‬ Urinalysis
17/6/2021 Aim: to Diagnose urologic conditions by physical, Microbiology
chemical and microscopy diagnostic. (Urine analysis area)
Workflow: there is two ways to do the analysis either
manual or using COBAS 6500. the first one used if the
sample is few which be hard for the machine to
diagnostic easily.
Results:
Full image for the sample under microscope and
accurate data shown
-Physical diagnostic (color- turbidity -odor)
-Chemical diagnostic (PH)
-Microscopic diagnostic (Epithelia – WBC’s-RBC’s-
microorganism )

Urine culture:
Is a completed step to urine analysis, at this test we
use CNA plate (plate divided into MAC and Blood)
It’s most important step that will confirm the bacterial
infection at urine

At this hospital Acinetobacter is one of the most

spreader bacteria between ICU patients, if the sample
is positive they should isolate the patient immediately

Gram stain:
is one of the important procedure that happened in
this area it’s contain four main steps
-Crystal violet
-Gram’s iodine
-Decolorizer
-Safranin
Monday Blood culture area contains 2 machines :

21/6/2021 -GeneXpert (Blood culture area)
1- Blood culture machine (BACTEC FX)
TASKS:
- Make sure about bottles labels (time-date-
anatomic site)
- Specimen vol. 5-10mL for adults, 1-3ml for
baby
- Insert the bottle inside the machine
- If it’s positive a new procedure will start

Tuesday Tasks:
‫الثالثاء‬ - Doing CAP proficiency testing Microbiology
22/6/2021 CAP survey is a national program that measure (Blood culture)
technician’s proficiency. (Different task included)
By June the microbiology lab have to submit the
survey for bacteriology segment B.

5 unknown samples to patients with a short medical

history included
 - Weekly pharmacy check
Every week pharmacy send an order to the lab to
check the environment of pharmacy hoods if it’s
sterilized or not.
- Sample air : is a machine that draw the air
- 2 media : Blood and SDA agar
Wednesday Mycology contain TB room, TB is short for
‫األربعاء‬ (Mycobacterium tuberculosis) Tuberculosis is an Microbiology

Double mask one of them is N95 is indeed
TASKS:
-Examination of mycology plate and wet prep
-Preparation of TB samples; inoculation of media
-preparation of smears, reading and interpreting slides
And culture
-Examination of Stool concentrates
Thursday GeneXpert instrument (Molecular microbiology)
‫الخميس‬ GeneXpert includes reagents to detect Microbiology
24/6/2021 (MTB-RIF-FLU-CARBA-MRSA) (Blood culture)
TASKS:
-Make sure to log in sample on system by add
receiving date and time
-Print barcode and prepare Cartlidge
- Split cotton tip inside the solution bottles then use
vortex to mix the specimen with solution
-Applied the mixture inside the Cartlidge
-Upload it inside the machine

If sample is positive another procedure will start

Sunday Biochemical area contains multi tests to do and more

27/6/2021 -CAMP test to identify Strep B Microbiology
-Germ tube (Biochemical area)
-Manual sensitivity
-QC
Monday -Coagulation test for the strep
‫االثنين‬ -Catalyze test
28/6/2021 Microbiology
Bichemical work flow: (Biochemical area)
After reading plate by specialist biochemical bench
receive the positive plates to detect the bacteria
Workflow:
-Check request to see specialist observations then
start Phanex process
-Make sure If specialist mentioned that the growth is
Gram negative to use Negative panel and vice versa
- Suspension should be between 0.50 -0.80
-Every panel contain two parts
1- ID to identify the name and specious of bacteria
2-AST (Antimicrobial sensitivity test) which is
responsible for pick the appropriate antibiotic
-Upload Panel inside (PHENEX) after scan panel
barcode and request barcode

Hence that process duration from 8-12 hours to

appear results on system and shown all the datils

Tuesday Reading plate is first mission to do at the morning

every plate and define type of bacteria and the (Reading and sensitivity area)

 Wednesday Specimens are received in the “specimen receiving

and Dr.Iram but the smallest by a specialist. (Grossing area)
TASKS:
1-make sure that you use the right cassette
2-cheak the report for clinical diagnosis and source of
tissue
3-Size by using ruler for measurements and color
4-Shape and weight
Wednesday HISTOPATHOLOGY AREA
‫األربعاء‬ Contains different sections:
7/7/2021 -Embedding area Histopathology
-Trimming area (Sectioning) (Histopathology area)
-staining area (Embedding area)

EMBEDDING AREA:
To prepare tissues for sections, cutting these includes
three modules: Wax dispenser, Cold plate, Heated
storage area for molds, these designed to be used with
the various size.

Tissue placement:
FLAT TISSUE SECTION: Ovary, Thyroid
CUT SURFACE: Hemorrhoids
SEGMENTAL SECTION: Appendix, vas deferens
 Thursday This area work on sectioning and prepare slides for
‫الخميس‬ staining.
8/7/2021 At this area the whole work count on an device called Histopathology
Microtomy, the decvice cut thin layers of the specimen (Histopathology area)
as thin as 1µm, specimen at this stage called (Parafin (Trimming area)
block)
