1. General Description

“OPTIMUM” is software, provided by Marichem Marigases Worldwide Services to the customer

and specifically to the vessels which perform Water Treatment and monitor their chemical test
results in the Boiler and Main Engine Systems.

The purpose of this software is to store and graphically display chemical tests on vessels, as
well as digitally communicate with Marichem Marigases Worldwide Services for the process of
them.

The software is very easy to install and it has very low requirements from the host PC in order
to run. Please use the USB stick provided to you and by copying and pasting the software on
your computer, perform the installation, as described in the next chapter.

Please input your results in one computer only and do not copy the app to various computers,
because confusion with the display and recording of the test results might occur.

It is advised that you use the software on your computer and keep the USB-Stick with its copy
as a “back-up”.

2. Installation Steps

Step 1: Installing the Software

In the Software folder you have been given, there are several files. You should first open this
file (“Optimum Manual”), which contains the instructions for the Software Setup.

Copy and paste the folder “OPTIMUM” to your computer (e.g. at your hard drive C:\).

You can open the “Optimum” app (Image 1) from the Software Folder at your computer.

Enter the key password (Image 2) “marichem2019”, click OK and then follow the procedure, as
described in the below steps.

Main Screen

When the software begins, the main screen (Image 3) is displayed with functions and steps the
user has to perform. There are six buttons, corresponding to the six tasks required from the
user. Half of them need to be done only once, during the software’s setup.

Image 3

 Vessel Settings: screen for inserting main vessel’s data

 Vessel Systems: screen for further technical info of vessel (boiler, cooling system, capacity)
and selection of vessel's chemical programs
 Update Database: screen for initial update of vessel’s singularity

 History: screen of vessel’s past tests and monthly

 Daily Tests: screen where the test results, the chemical consumptions and further remarks
are recorded
 Create monthly report: procedure that creates the monthly tests’ file, in order to be sent
to Marichem Marigases for evaluation.

Each one of the Main Screen’s functionalities is explained below with detail and in the same
order the user has to perform them.
Note that “Vessel Settings”, “Vessel Systems” and “Update Database” need to be performed
only once, in the beginning of the setup.

5
Step 2: Setting up Vessel's information (Vessel Settings)

This is the screen that allows the user to insert vessel's main data (Image 4). This data includes
the following:

 Vessel’s Name
 Vessel’s IMO Number
 Vessel’s e-mail address
 Sign of the Disclaimer (Image 5).

Image 4

Image 5

6
If the Disclaimer is read and not signed, the process cannot proceed and the user is informed
with an alert message (Image 6). Once the Disclaimer is read, the date of sign is recorded in the
system (Image 7). Then the user should press the "Save" button, so that the data will be saved
(no additional message should appear) and then the “Close” button (x) on the top-right corner,
so that he can return to the main screen.

Image 6

Image 7

7
Step 3: Updating Database

This screen allows the user to “update” the software with the unique data each vessel is
providing. The user must press the “Update Database” button (Image 8) and upload a file (not
readable) – usually has the name of the vessel – which is created by the Software Administrator
of our Technical Department and is located within the software folder (Image 9).

Image 8

Image 9

Once the procedure is completed, the user is informed accordingly (Image 10) and should press
the “Close” button on the top-right corner, in order to return to the main screen.

Image 10

8
Step 4: Setting up Systems and Programs (Vessel Systems)

After the vessel's data input, the user can proceed to the definition of the systems (boilers and
main engine systems) and the chemical programs associated with them.

Once the Vessel Systems screen appears, the user is alerted with a message for the proper
selection (Image 11).

Image 11

If the vessel has only one boiler, one must click the BOILER Group, check the box on the left of
the choice "Boiler 1" in the “Available Systems” section, insert the Boiler’s Capacity (in tons)
and then check the one and only program that the boiler uses, in the “Available Programs”
section (*check below Table 1, page 11).

For the user’s convenience, every time the cursor crosses any of the Available Programs, on the
right side a table appears with the relevant tests that the user performs, by following each
program (Image 12).

Image 12

In case the vessel has more boilers, the user should check the "Boiler 2" or “Exhaust Gas Boiler”
boxes, as well, depending on the total number of boilers. Kindly take into consideration that all
boilers use the same chemical.

9
Afterwards, one must click the CASCADE/CONDENSATE Group (Image 13), check the box on the
left of the choice "CASCADE/CONDENSATE" in the “Available Systems” section and then check
the same program that the boiler uses, in the “Available Programs” section.

Image 13

Same procedure should be followed for the Cooling System (Image 14), as well.
The user has to choose between the HT and LT Cooling System, or both of them and insert their
capacities (in tons). Then, the chemical program (**check below Table 2 on page 11) has to be
selected, as well. In case the user does not choose any of the available systems or programs, no
Cooling System test results shall be able to be recorded.

Image 14

10
Kindly be advised to choose the correct chemical programs, depending on the chemicals you
use for the treatment of your systems, as described in the tables below:

In order to Save the changes, the user has to press the “Save and Close” Button. At this point
another confirmation message will appear, warning the user of the final changes that will be
made into the system, after choosing “Yes” (Image 15). In case this button is pressed by
accident or one wishes to review his choices again, he can always press the “No” button.

Image 15

3. Daily Tests

When the vessel's information is set and the systems and programs have been chosen, the
software is ready for the chemical test data recording, in the "Daily Tests" Screen.

Choosing Date and System

The screen (Image 16) is designed to accept data on a daily basis for all tests. All test fields are
displayed for a particular system (boiler, cooling system). On the top right of the screen the
users can choose the test day and the system. When one chooses the day or the system, the
screen is redesigned accordingly and data concerning the specific system can be inserted.

Image 16

Navigation

The screen shows various input fields according to the system the user has chosen. There are
three ways to navigate from one field to another:

 By clicking on the field (the cursor is set on it and ready to accept values)
 By pressing the TAB key (the cursor moves to the next field)
 By pressing the SHIFT+TAB keys (the cursor moves to the previous field)

12
Test Data Input

To input data, concerning the decimal separator the user can use either "," or ".". Software
changes the "," to "." and all fractional numbers are shown with the "." decimal separator.

Once the user begins to insert values, they are displayed for the respective date in the charts
above (Image 17), where the blue lines indicate the satisfactory limits. Each value has certain
total limits, so if a number exceeds the parameter’s limits, the input field is turned to red
(Image 18), indicating that a value, which is not reflecting reality, has been inserted.

Image 17

Image 18

13
Other than the recording of test results, the user is able to record the chemical dosages
consumed for each Program (written in Lt or Kg), blowdown duration, if water sample is not
clear (by clicking the relevant field, an “X” appears and disappears) and also writing further
comments in the “Remarks” session. In case there is no chemical addition, simply leave the
field empty. Finally, by clicking “Help File”, the user is able to consult the PDF files (Folder
“PDF”) of chemicals and test kits, based on his specific chemical Program (Image 19).

Image 19

! Please mind that the Nitrite ions’ value should be recorded in ppm (Image 20) and not as it
appears in the test kit. Kindly be advised by Table.3 below, as well.

Image 20

14
TABLE 3. Nitrite value interpretation

Quantity of Nitrite 1–5 5 – 10 10 – 15 15 – 20 20 – 60 Over 60

Quantity of Nitrite (ppm) 0–300 300–600 600–900 900–1200 1200–3600 Over 3600

Saving Tests

When test results are inserted in the system, the user has to select the “Save and Close”
button. Note that you can always return to the “Daily Tests” screen and record more results or
correcting mistakes.

4. History

The button "History" on the main screen recalls the history screen (Image 21) where the
monthly results of all systems and programs of the vessel are stored. Each program is shown on
a different page and every page contains all the monthly graphs of the specific program.

By choosing the month and year in the upper left corner and selecting find, the results of this
period are displayed. Use the bar on the right side, in order to navigate to the rest of the
graphs below.

Image 21

15
5. Sending Monthly Tests to Marichem Marigases Worldwide Services

When you have inserted all monthly results, the user must send the data to Marichem
Marigases Worldwide Services, via e-mail, by following below steps.

1. On the main screen, the user must choose the month on the "Date" field.

!Attention: the results are saved for the month written in the calendar (Image 22)!
For instance, if one wishes to save the March test results on the 1st of April, the calendar will
write 04/2020. The user has to change the month from 04/2020 to 03/2020 (March), by simply
clicking the calendar and write or navigate to the correct month. Same can be done for year, as
well or for previous months.

Image 22

2. Then he must press the button "Create Monthly Report".

In the window appears the file’s name (eg: VESSEL BLANK_IMO_1234567_202003) and location
that the Report is saved in the computer. This location is the folder “RESULTS” (Image 23) that
is created within the Program’s general folder, during the first time that a Monthly Report is
created (not readable).

16
Feel free to test it again and again with no harm. The software creates the file again and
overrides the existing one. You can always check if you saved the correct month’s results, by
the file’s name (eg: 202003 stands for 2020, March) (Image 24).

Image 23

Image 24
