Hey, meeting again after a
long time! How are you doing?
Well, this covid situation has
really destroyed our social life.
Hey, I'm fine! Can't agree more. Though
the situation in this decade is at least
better as technology has enabled
interacting online.
It can't substitute real
experiences with these online
one. Maybe one day, we may
have something that feels
more lively.
Well, it's already here. Haven't you
heard about the emergence of
immersive technologies?
Immersive
technologies? Never
heard about them.
Immersive technologies are the ones
that extend reality, create a virtual one,
or maybe do both. For example,
bringing a digital object into the real
world through AR glasses.
I have used an app to see how a
furniture piece would look in my room
before actually buying it. What are the
pillars of building such experiences?
These pillars are Augmented Reality, Virtual
Reality and Mixed Reality. The one you
mentioned comes under Augmented
Reality as a digital object is brought into
reality through the medium of a device.
And virtual reality is like a completely
virtual space that has no relation with the
real world. I have seen some games being
played on the headsets and that's an
entirely different reality.
Right said! Virtual reality creates a
completely different reality.
THat's cool! What about Mixed
Reality? Is that something that
mixes AR and VR?
Well, something similar. It blends
them together. You can bring a
virtual object or a virtual experience
and blend it into the real world.
Isn't that similar to
Augmented Reality?
Well, Mixed Reality is known as AR 2.0.
There is a layer of interaction that
separates these two technologies. In Mixed
Reality, virtual elements can interact with
each other and at the same time, a person
can interact with those virtual elements.
Damn! It can be something where you
can replace a physical screen with virtual
screens and interact with it. I'm so excited
to see how that’ll work
You are right! Mixed Reality is said to
replace traditional computing
devices. Consider using a laptop
without screen!
Although all of this sounds so exciting
and futuristic, it does sounds like science
fiction right now. Is there anyone who has
achieved something with it?
It's no more science fiction. These are the
technologies that will enable the metaverse!
Many companies including the tech giants
like Facebook, Microsoft, and Google are
working to make it mainstream.
Wow. I really would love to learn and
understand these technologies more.
Thanks a lot for making this so exciting
and easy for me.
You're welcome.
