Course Description:
This course dealing with statistical concepts & aims to provide recognition of situations where statistical analysis &
qualitative research may be of benefit and the range of methods that may apply to a given situation.
Objectives:
The aim of this course is to provide the students an introduction to statistical methods useful for analyzing data, with
specific application to problems of business. Students will also be expected to learn how to use statistics to think
critically about real world issues. Statistical methodology and theory will be presented in an applications context.
Ultimately, the goal is to provide students with quantitative tools that can be used in the areas of marketing, financial
& managerial accounting, corporate finance, research methods, operation research, and total quality management. The
use of the Minitab or SPSS statistical package.

COURSE CONTENTS
Introduction to Statistics. Meaning of Statistics. Branches of Statistics. Mean, Median,
Measures of Central Mode, Quartiles, Outlier. Coefficient of Variation. Skewness & Week – 1
Tendency & Dispersion. Kurtosis. Standard Z Score.
Continuous Probability Normal Distribution. Properties. The Standard Normal Week – 2 & 3
Distribution: Distribution. Application of Normal Distribution. Inverse use of
Area.
Sampling & Sampling Sampling distribution of mean and proportions with Week – 4
Distributions: replacement. Sampling distribution of mean and proportions
without replacement.
Estimation: Testing of Confidence Interval (Mean, Proportion, Difference between two Week – 5 & 6
Hypothesis with One Population Means / proportion)
Sample – I:
Testing of Hypothesis with State the five steps used in hypothesis testing. Test means for Week – 7 & 8
One Sample – II: large samples using the Z – test (Use traditional & P-value
