Gating Design

The document discusses gating design for casting processes. It describes how gating systems are designed to distribute molten metal into mould cavities with proper flow rates and velocities. It provides examples of different gate types (top, bottom, horn) and discusses factors in gating design like pressurized vs unpressurized systems and gating ratios. Steps are outlined for calculating casting weight, pouring weight, pouring time, choke area, and dimensions for sprue, runner, and ingate based on material type and part geometry. An example gating design calculation is shown for a steel casting part.
