Answer all the questions in this section in the spaces provided.

1. Express 5184 and 9 in their prime factors hence evaluate 5184 leaving yours answer in prime
factors. 9 (4 marks)

2. Three bells ring at intervals of 30 minutes, 35 minutes and 40 minutes. The bell will next ring together
at 2325hours. Find the time the bells had last rang together in 12 hour-clock system. (4 marks)

3. Evaluate. (−8) × 4 + 96 ÷ 4of (−36 + 30)


(−5) − (−8) × 2 + 7

4. The money collected in a fundraising was used as follows. One seventh was used to pay girls fees and
two thirds of the remainder was used to pay fees for boys. If shs 300,000 remained, how much
money was raised? (3 marks)

5. Evaluate the following. leaving your answer in decimal form. 1.23× 8.4 × 0.35 (3 marks)

12. A bus left Nairobi for Mombasa at 2030 Hrs and arrived at Mtito at 0300Hz and stopped for 30
minutes and took 2 hours 45 minutes to arrive at Mombasa. Find in 12 hour -clock system, the time
the bus arrived in Mombasa. (2 marks)

15. Kshs 270 was divided among 3 boys and 2 girls giving each girl 3 times as much as each boy.

SECTION II
Answer all the questions on the spaces provided.

17. Three business partners Peter, John and Mary contributed shs 400,000, shs 300,00 and shs 500,000
respectively to start a business. They agreed to share 30% of the profits equally. They also agreed to
put back 40% into business each year and the remaining 30% to be shared among the partners in the
ratio of their contribution. At the end of the first year, the business realised a profit of shs 360,000.

a) Calculate the amount of money put back into the business. (1 mark)

b) Calculate the amount of money received by each partner. (7 marks)

c) Express the amount of money received by Mary as percentage of total amount of money shared
equally. (2 marks)

18. Three shopping centres X, Y and Z and such that the bearing of Y and Z from x are 075° and 105°
respectively. The distance XY = 60km and XZ = 85km. A police post (P) is due west of Y and due
North of Z.

a) Using a suitable scale, draw a diagram to show the relative position of X, Y, Z and P. (3 marks)

b) From the diagram determine the distance:

21. A sales lady is paid a commission of 4% on goods worth over shs 100,000. She is paid a monthly
salary of shs 20,000. In a certain month, she sold 300 calculators at Ksh 800.

a) Calculate the saleslady's earning that month. (3 marks)

b) The following month the monthly salary was increased by 10%. Her total earning that month was
