The
Breakdown
In this section, the entire course of O Level
Maths is broken down into different Topics and
each Topic is assigned a difficulty level based on
the key below.
Easy Medium Difficult
Furthermore, after assigning a difficulty level it
is explained how they fit into the 50/30/20 rule.
This way you will experience a lesser burden
while preparing for your final exams and will
know which topics or sub topics you need to
cover first. It will also give you freedom to focus
on other subjects.
So without wasting a single second, let’s get
right into the nitty gritty’s.

Detailed
Breakdown
Another very important thing we realised after
speaking to multiple students and assessing their
feedback is that a student also fears the possibility
of missing out on certain sub-topics.
Now this can be a problem if you have your CAIEs
coming up pretty soon. So we went a little further
and broke the Major topics down into subtopics so
that it helps you remember which Sub-topics you
may have missed out whilst your preparation.
The next 5 pages have a detailed breakdown of
each Major topic. The purpose of this section is
solely to help you recall which sub-topics you are
yet to cover. This method of recalling will give you
an edge in improving your grade even further.
Let’s get right into it.

There are about 34 different
topics which are highlighted
with Green and Blue labels
above. These topics are rated as
the EASIEST and MEDIUM in
terms of difficulty.
However, the ones with the Red
labels, as you can see above, are
7 topics that are rated most
DIFFICULT and we need to
attack them first with full force.
Let’s See how?
The two fold Strategy
The two fold Strategy is simple and easy to
understand. This one strategy can save you time
and energy while you prepare for your CAIEs.
2 Parts
50/30/20 Rule 70/30 Rule
Only purpose is Only purpose is
PREPARATION EXECUTION
Let’s drill down further..
30
The 50/30/20 Rule
Spend 50% of your time working on the 7 topics
mentioned above which are rated as the most
difficult topics. Spend 30% of your time on topics
that are rated medium in difficulty level. And
spend the remaining 20% time on the easy topics
mentioned in the start. This strategy will allow
you to save time and energy and PUMP up your
math skills and you’ll unlock a part of yourself you
didn’t know existed.
HOWEVER, this does not mean that you don’t
attempt complete Past Papers in one go while
practicing. If you are aiming for a good grade you
still have to put in the time and effort to make it
happen for you. Nothing comes without hard
work!
Now you know how to spend your time studying
math, let’s have a look at how to ATTACK both
Paper 1 and Paper 2 with our learnings.
31
The 70/30 Rule
For the past 8 years or so Paper 1 has been a 2
hour paper with the total number of questions
ranging between 20 to 27. The max marks are
now capped up at 80 which means on average
each question ranges between 3 to 5 marks.
Paper 2 has about 10 to 12 questions on average.
A 2 hour 30 min paper capped at a 100 marks,
which are unequally divided between 10 to 12
questions. Which means on average each
question ranges from about 10 to 8 marks.
Now consider this, you are aiming to get an A
grade, but the maximum you think you can
score is a B grade. The problem isn’t that you
don’t know math. The problem is that you are
less experienced in the difficult topics and
therefore lose marks there. Great teachers may
give you this feedback when you are paying to
attend their classes.
Isn’t this true ??
Shouldn’t this advice be for free ??
32
For Paper 1: On average 70 percent of the
questions that you get are considered easy on
the difficulty level. Only the remaining 30% are
considered difficult. If there are 24 questions in
your paper and on average 70% are easy that
means that about 17 questions are easy. Let’s
assume that the average mark per question is 4.
If you get 17 questions right, which means 17 x 4
= 68 marks, you just secured 68 marks out of 80
which is about 85%.
For Paper 2: Let's say it has an average of 10
questions. We discussed earlier that at least 70%
of those questions are relatively easy, it’s true for
Paper 2 as well. If you attempt and get those 70%
coupled with the 85% in Paper 1, you just ensured
a 'B Grade’ with a decent amount of effort.
BUT I DONT WANT A ‘B GRADE’!
From the 50/30/20 rule, you have already
learned about the difficult topics, since you
have been preparing for those difficult topics
after listening to this advice, it is time you go
for the remaining 30% of difficult questions in
your exam now. You have less to worry about,
you know exactly what to do and how to zero in
your focus on what’s important.
GO FOR IT NOW!
33
There is a sure shot strategy, to BOOST your
grade which I have handed over to you in
this book.
I am saying this once again. Stay focused,
channelize your energy and work hard.
There is Absolutely nothing that you are
not capable of.
