My interest in journalism began the first time | read a news piece about how global warming was reaching its pinnacle. It went on to detail the effects of the same on the general well- being of individuals around the world, as well as what simple steps may be taken to make a difference. Many of my classmates had read the same article, and my environmental studies instructor had discussed it in class as well. This single bit of information sparked a conversation that | believe was significant in my life, and | have subsequently adopted greener behaviors. This was the first time | saw the power of journalism and the influence it can have on people. It started me thinking about how simple phrases may influence cognitive processes and improve people's lives. The assessment of the article's level of impact got me thinking about the positive aspects about journalism and how one could be part of actively changing people's lives using words. For a young mind, this was highly inspiring. The most exciting part of my educational journey so far was the practice-based knowledge that | gathered throughout. | had multiple opportunities to craft convincing pieces of journalism works that were published across local media. After graduating last year, | realized that | was not quite where | wanted to be with respect to the level of knowledge that | currently possess. | believe that there is a lot more that | have to explore in terms of technical aspects of print journalism including online journalism and other related aspects. That is what prompted me to look for programs that would help me achieve a stronger skill set that would allow of me to stand out from the heavy competition in this field and establish myself as a successful journalist in India. What fascinates me most about the curriculum of the program is the level of emphasis that is placed on practice based education. Someday, | wish to be the voice of somebody who needs to be heard and for this reason it is important for me to be very thorough in the fundamental and advanced aspects of journalism in a comprehensive sense and this is exactly what is offered through the program set up by your university.
