1) The name of the common polygons are:

3 sides___________________
4 sides___________________
5 sides___________________
6 sides___________________
7 sides___________________
8 sides___________________
10 sides___________________
12 sides___________________

2) Using only a ruler and a pair of compasses, construct the following triangles:
Example:
Constructing the triangle ABC in which sides AB=6 cm, BC=6cm and AC=7 cm:
First, draw the line AB using a ruler
Second, open up a pair of compasses to 6 cm. Place the compass point on B and draw an
arc.
Third, open up the pair of compasses to 7 cm. Place the compass point on A and draw an
arc. Where the two arcs intersect is point C.
Forth, join C to A and C to B.

a) Length of each side: 10cm, 7cm and 9 cm

b) Length of each side: 8cm, 5cm and 6 cm
c) Length of each side: 10cm, 3cm and 5 cm. Is this triangle possible? Why?
3) Draw a line similar to the one shown below and draw the perpendicular bisector to AB.

GEOMETRY EXERCISES

Construct the perpendicular bisector of each of the sides of your triangle.

Use a pair of compasses to draw a circle using the point where the three perpendicular bisectors
cross as the centre and passing through the points X, Y and Z.
This is called the circumcicle of the triangle.

5) Draw a triangle similar to the one shown below:

By construction, draw a circle to pass through points P, Q and R.

6) Measure and write down the size of the angles marked x and y

On the diagram construct the bisector of angle x.

7) In each of the following questions, some of the angles are given. Deduce, giving your reasons, the
size of the other labelled.
