Dear Biology Students,

Find below a list of topics you should study for the semester exam.

Unit #1: Biochemistry and The Origin of Life


 Elements of life: oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, types of bonds: 
o Covalent, ionic, hydrogen 
  Biomolecules: macromolecules, 
o Carbs, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids
o Enzymes  
 Properties of water  
o Cohesion/adhesion
o Surface tension
o High heat of vaporization
o Low density solid
Unit #2: Cell Structure and Function
 Cell theory  
 Prokaryote versus eukaryote
o Low density solid
o Organelles
o Endomembrane system
o DNA and nucleus
o Animal versus plant cell  

Your best tool is Schoology, every single piece of information I’ve taught you is on there. Below is a
suggestion on how you should study, use it as a checklist:

 I have reviewed the topics of study (above) at least two times


 I have checked my notebook and made sure that all my notes are complete
 If my notes are not complete, I have found the PowerPoints that contain them and have
finished taking them
 I have printed a new copy of every single worksheet on Schoology (there are 6 total)
 I have tried to do the worksheets ALONE, without looking at PowerPoints or my notes
 I have made a star of the things I don’t remember
 I have gone back, and summarized, made mind maps, or flashcards of the things I don’t
remember
 I have attempted to complete the worksheets again
 I am ready for the exam!
