Aspek
1. Chapter Contents Mechanical disorders of the spine add
(Summary in Each Sub-Chapter) more to world disability than any other
illness and the annual cost of them
runs to many billions. High quality
biomechanics research into these
conditions is essential, but
problematical given the location of the
spine deep in the body. The AECC
University College Centre for
Biomechanics Research (CBR), under
the direction of Alan Breen Professor
of Musculoskeletal Research, is an
international leader in addressing this
problem.
The Centre has specialist expertise in
medical physics and clinical
biomechanics. We have access to a
dedicated Fluoroscopy lab, an on-site
upright, open MRI scanner and other
biomechanical measurement devices.
Beyond this, CBR works
internationally in collaboration with
clinical, basic science and industrial
partners to further our understanding
of inter joint biomechanics through
quantitative imaging biomarkers.
SUMMARY
Sports medicine professionals use
biomechanical principles to understand
injury mechanisms, select appropriate
injury prevention and rehabilitation
protocols, and monitor recovery. In the
specificity example, we saw that
qualitative analysis of exercise
technique can help sports medicine
professionals ensure that the client's
technique achieves the desired training
effect. Qualitative analysis in sports
medicine often focuses on an
anatomical structure level more often
than other kinesiology professions.
Conclusion Biomechanics has been defined as the
study of the movement of living things
using the science of mechanics (Hatze,
1974). Mechanics is a branch of
physics that is concerned with the
description of motion and how forces
create motion. Forces acting on living
things can create motion, be a healthy
stimulus for growth and development,
or overload tissues, causing injury.
Biomechanics provides conceptual and
mathematical tools that are necessary
for understanding how living things
move and how kinesiology
professionals might improve
movement or make movement safer.
