Grade 7 Simple Equations Guide

This document provides examples of simple equations for students in grade 7. It includes writing equations from word statements, setting up and solving various word problems as equations, checking if given values satisfy equations, and solving single-variable equations. Examples cover topics like adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing variables, finding unknown values, and working with supplementary, complementary, and isosceles triangle angles.

GRADE - 7

SIMPLE EQUATIONS

1. Write the statements in the form of equations.

(a) Twice a number subtracted from 24 gives 18.
(b) Half of a number more than 5 gives 32.
(c) Two third of a number subtracted from 26 gives 48.
(d) Sum of a number and ten divided by 7 gives three .

2. Convert equation in statement form.

(a) p+4 = 15 (b) m-7 = 3 (c) 2m-1 = 6 (d) 6+5p = (-4)

3. Setup an equation and solve

(a)A number when added to its half gives 72. Find the number.
(b) Ann’s mother is 4years less than 3 times her age. If Ann’s mother is 32 years old, find
Ann’s age.
(c) One of the supplementary angle is 200 more than the other. Find the pair of
supplementary angles.
(d) One of the complementary angle is four times the other. Find the angles.
3
(e) In a class the number of boys is times the number of girls. If there are 55 students in
2
the class, find the number of boys and girls.
(f) In an isosceles triangle the vertex angle is thrice the base angles. Find the angles.
(g) Raju has 2 chocolates less than 4times the chocolate Ramu has. Raju has 18 chocolates.
Find the number of chocolate Ramu has.

4. Check whether the value given in the brackets is a solution to the given equation.

(a) 8n + 5 = 21 (n = -2) (b) 4p – 3 = 13 (p = 4)

(c) 3 + 4x = -5 (x = -2) (d) 2y – 15 = 7 (y =11)

5. Solve the following equations

y 3m
(a) 5p + 3 = 7 (b) 2 - 2 = 8 (c) 5 = -7 (d) 5(a-2) = 15
(e) 8(2-a) = -16 (f) -24 = -4(3-x) (g) 35 = 3 + 2(t+7)
2x 1 y 5
(h) 0 = -10 + 5(p+2) (i) 5 + 1 = 15 (j) 3 - 2 = 6
(k) 7(b – 2) = 14 (l) 21 = 3(8+ n) (m) 0 = 6(x+4)
