MANDATORY ROTC

ROTC, or Reserve Officers' Training Corps, has existed for a while, especially in higher education. ROTC is a
group of college-based officer training programs that prepare commission officers for the country's army.
Furthermore, this is for the country's ongoing construction to recruit skilled young people to serve as backup armies
for defense. ROTC was previously a mandatory service offered to college students, but it was discontinued owing
to reasons including the program serving as a cornerstone to promote widespread violence and abuse, abuse of
students’ rights, and unprotected learning for the majority of college students. And now, there is a movement
calling for the ROTC to be promptly reinstated and considered necessary for college students once more. The
ROTC program should be enhanced.

It is my strong belief that the ROTC program is designed to build a strong foundation for instilling patriotism and
nationalism in youths so that they can grow into responsible citizens with the skills, knowledge, and heart to defend
and secure the country's national institutions and sovereignty. Patriotism, often known as national pride, is a sense
of love, devotion, and attachment to one's homeland, as well as an alliance with other citizens who have a similar
passion. Nationalism is a doctrine and movement that promotes the interests of a specific nation (as in a group of
people), especially with the goal of achieving and retaining the nation's sovereignty (self-governance) over its
homeland. These are some of the most important advantages that you will gain or grow through
yourself in ROTC.

When people enter the military right from high school, they do not think to explore their opportunities. Some go
and live difficult lives in the enlisted section, while some go the extra mile for a little more schooling to become
officers. That is where the ROTC comes in. ROTC will not only help you become an officer but also enhance your
physical, mental, and leadership skills. The ROTC program teaches you leadership, and teamwork. The ROTC
course is designed to allow students to learn and apply ethics-based leadership skills that develop individual
abilities to contribute to effective team building.

Implementing the ROTC program for senior high school students aims to teach discipline and a sense of purpose,
respect for the laws and authorities, and compliance with rules and regulations in kids while they are still young.
Indeed, along with the sense of discipline and patriotism that comes from active participation in ROTC is the
readiness to perform the ultimate obligation of defending the Philippines from foreign aggression, given that
defense of the state is everyone's duty.

The proposal, which President Duterte floated early in his term, is brilliant. ROTC will undoubtedly assist young
Filipinos. To be sure, ROTC will teach students patriotism. It will instill in them a deep affection for our nation. It
will condition and shape them into disciplined and respected individuals. "One good approach to inculcate and
cultivate a love of country is through the ROTC program in our educational system," Defense Secretary Delfin
Lorenzana said. "I believe that ROTC can teach our youth leadership, discipline, respect for authority, and service
to the country," he says, adding that "it will empower them to take on challenges that are bigger than themselves.

Furthermore, I am persuaded that the more comprehensive method to educate our youth's feeling of nationalism and
patriotism is to train them from an early age to research and respond to threats to our viability, as well as to be
responsible leaders in their particular disciplines. To obtain patriotism and nationalism, students must be dedicated
to the ROTC and our country, driven to succeed regardless of the hurdles they confront, and disciplined enough to
achieve their goals. This manner, we can assure that future Filipino generations will be heroes - nation-builders who
thrive in their chosen profession or sector and contribute to our country's long-term progress, stability, and security.

In conclusion, the best way to nurture values that are of great importance such as patriotism and nationalism the
Filipino youth is by executing ROTC in all schools throughout the country whilst they are still young. We learn the
ways of the military through our professors and we are constantly putting it into practice. We always have to realize
that everything we do has consequences because it is like we are constantly being watched by our ROTC officers.
