Fall Protection Signage!


Falls continue to be one of most common
causes of fatalities in the workplace.
Don’t let your employees forget about their
safety with fall protection signage.

Medical Fitness!
Medical conditions that will make a person
unfit for work at heights are:
 Hypertension/High Blood pressure,
 Epilepsy,
 Diabetes,
 Heart Diseases,
 Fear of Heights

Fall Protection Permit System
Permits are required for work:
 At heights of more than 2 meters on fixed
platforms without standard railings.

 Within 5 meters of unprotected edges of a roof or


work platform.

 Where the site’s risk assessment shows a permit


is required.

Guard floor holes to prevent trips or falls.

Keep all floors clean and dry to prevent slips
and trips.

Keep floors free from protrusions or loose


surface material that can create a trip hazard.

Fragile Surfaces!
Communicate the presence of fragile surfaces
to prevent accidents.

Do not allow anyone to work on fragile


surfaces unless they are of sufficient strength
to withstand any imposed loads.

Fixed Ladders!
Access points to fixed ladders must be
provided with a swinging gate to prevent any
person from walking directly into the opening.

Guard openings for fixed ladder access with
a standard railing.

Provide fixed ladders of more than 6 meters in
height with a cage surrounding the climbing
side of the ladder, extending from 2 meters
above floor level to a point at least 1 meter
above the landing surface.

Fixed ladders longer than 9 meters must be
provided with landing platforms at least every
9 meters.

Guard every wall opening with a drop of 1.2
meters or more.

Guard any other wall openings as indicated by


the risk assessment.

Guards must be able to withstanding a load of
a person falling onto the barrier.

When the opening is not in use, the guard


must be kept in position regardless of a door
on the opening.

Working on Elevated Surfaces!
Fit elevated work platforms with a removable
toe-board or equivalent where there is
exposure below to falling materials.

Elevated Platforms!
Guard every open-sided floor, platform or
walkway with a drop of 1.2 meters or more, or
as indicated by the risk assessment except
where there is entrance to a ramp, stairway,
fixed ladder or loading access.

When performing work at heights over 2
meters where fixed platforms and standard
railings are not provided, wear a legally
approved full body harness.

When the use of a full body harness is not
possible or is inadequate, implement
alternative fall protection measures, such as
safety nets or airbags, of sufficient capacity to
prevent injury in the event of a fall.

Anchorage points must support at least 2
times the maximum expected arresting force.

Anchorage points must be located to ensure a
maximum free-fall distance of less than 2
meters.

Aerial Lifts!
Aerial lifts must have toe-boards and
standard railings.
Personnel in an aerial device must wear a full
body harness and be tied off to the aerial
device at all times.
Load limits specified by the manufacturer
must not be exceeded.

Implement controls to prevent personnel
access under a raised aerial device.

Establish controls to prevent the inadvertent
movement of the lift during operation.

Do not operate aerial devices near energized
high voltage power lines.
A minimum distance of at least 3 meters must
be maintained between the energy source and
the device.

Forklift Basket Attachment!
The basket attachment must have a standard
railing and toe-board.
Have an identified anchorage point.
Be secured and locked to the lift truck.

Wheels of the lift truck must be locked or
chocked when work is being done inside the
basket.

The lift truck operator must remain at the
controls of the lift truck and stay in
communication with personnel in the basket
attachment.

Do not tie or fasten ladders together to
provide longer sections unless designed for
extension.

Store ladders and mobile platforms such that
they are protected from damage and are
accessible for use.

Place and use ladders and mobile platforms
to prevent injury from energized equipment
and traffic!
Do not use metal ladders or mobile platforms
where there is the potential to contact live
electrical equipment.

Scaffolding!
Post the load rating and do not exceed it.
Ensure scaffolding has standard railing for all
work platforms.
Scaffolding must be fitted with ladders
integrated with or secured to the scaffolding
for use when ascending or descending
between levels.

Loading and Offloading!
Use movable gantries or similar for loading,
offloading and working on top of trucks to tie
off personnel PPE to prevent fall injuries.

A forklift can move this gantry around the site.

Loading and Offloading!
Install free moving slings on structural beams
that have been tested and approved for such
used to attach fall protection PPE worn by
personnel working at height.
