CLASS :IX LINEAR EQUATION IN TWO VARIABLES &

COORDINATE GEOMETRY
1. The cost of a table is Rs 100 more than half the cost of a chair. Write
this statement as a linear equation in two variables.
2. If (p, 2p + 1) is the solution of the linear equation 4x + 3y = 23. Find the
value of p.
3. Find the value of m, if (5,8) is a solution of the equation 11 x-2y = 3m,
then find one more solution of this equation
4. Give the equations of two lines passing through (2, 14). How many
more such lines are there and why ?
5. A fraction becomes 1/4 when 2 is subtracted from the numerator and 3
is added to the denominator. Represent this situation as a linear
equation in two variables
6.
A policeman and a thief are equidistant from the jewel box, upon considering jewel
box as origin, the position of the policeman is (0,5). If the ordinate of the position of
the thief is zero, then write the coordinates of the position of the thief.

7. Without plotting the points indicate the quadrant in which they will lie, if
(i) ordinate is 5 and abscissa is – 3.
(ii) abscissa is – 5 and ordinate is – 3.
(iii) abscissa is – 5 and ordinate is 3.
(iv) ordinate is 5 and abscissa is 3.
8. From the given figure, answer the following questions

(i) Write the points whose abscissa is 0.

(ii) Write the points whose ordinate is 0.
(iii) Write the points whose abscissa is – 5,
9. Show that the points A (1, 2), B (-1, -16) and C (0, -7) lie on the graph of the
linear equation y = 9x – 7.
10. Point A is chosen on y-axis in such a
way that ΔABC is an equilateral
triangle. The base BC of the ΔABC
is shown in the figure. Find the
coordinates of (i) the mid-point of BC
(ii) the area of the triangle (iii) the
vertices of a triangle.
