☢︎Fallout 4 Style Map Creator☢︎

GREETINGS, WASTELANDERS!

When beginning my first campaign of Fallout 2D20 with some close friends from across
the country via Roll20, I wanted to create a map for my players that would not
break immersion.

Unfortunately, when attempting to create this map, I had trouble finding all the assets
and tools necessary. There’s a few great Map related tools in the community, but I
noticed a fragmentation and inaccessibility when it came to making a PIP-BOY MAP.
This “Creator” is the result of my own frustration - I hope you can use it as a tool in
your game to quickly generate a Pip-Boy style map with little to no technical/graphic
knowledge needed!

All of the map icons you will need are already available as Standard Vector Graphic
files via the wikipedia page. These files are great if you know how to use them, or are
familiar with design software. Dragging and dropping can result in a very tiny, blurry
icon, leading to frustration! As a solution, I have gathered the most-used icons and
converted them to drag-and-drop PNG files.

I have also included a few royalty free images to help add a “CRT-Screen” effect to
your map if you wish.

Follow the steps below to create your own Fallout 4 Style Pip-Boy Map for your
own Campaign!
1. Visit SNAZZYMAPS and use the Pipboy Fixed preset (credit: Nicholas
Salter) to generate a map of your area. I recommend finding your
selection on google maps separately before using snazzymaps - as it will
often remove roads and other indicators. You can sign up for a free
account to download your map - myself personally, I full-screen my
browser window and take a screenshot! Fidelity is not important, we are
looking at a tiny pip boy screen remember 😉

2. Place the map in your photo editing software of choice. If you do not
have access to Photoshop, I recommend GIMP as a free solution - it has
the tools needed to generate your map.

3. Download the Map Icon folder and simply drag-and-drop the PNGs to
populate your map.

EXTRA CREDIT
4. To mark locations with text - download VCR OSD MONO font(free) to your
computer and proceed to use the “Type” tool in your editing software.

5. For a finishing touch - drop in one of the included SCANLINE textures and
set the image/layer’s opacity to OVERLAY at 50-65%. This is what will
create the aesthetic of an old CRT monitor.

The result should look something like this:

If you feel comfortable using your photo editing/graphic program, then this is only the
beginning! Apply an “Outer Glow” on your assets to increase that retro-screen effect!
Throw a color filter on there and customize your pip-boy color just like in Fallout 4!
Utilize the outlined “Undiscovered” icons to suggest points of interest to your player
characters! The possibilities are limitless ✨

*I DO NOT OWN THE RIGHTS TO ANY OF THESE CREATIONS. I HAVE MERELY GATHERED PREVIOUSLY CREATED ASSETS -
MODIFYING SLIGHTLY IN SOME CASES - FOR CONVENIENCE AND EASE OF USE.
