Data Backup and Recovery Plan
Kasetsart University Knowledge Repository
The Kasetsart University Knowledge Repository backup use CommVault Simpana
software to manage backup of application, database, and digital files.
There are 3 backup systems: -
(1) Daily snapshot backups of virtual machine servers to onsite disk. The data is
backed up in 14 versions and it can be recovered for 2 weeks.
(2) Weekly backup to offsite tape libraries and deposited in a bank safe. The data is
backed up in 8 versions and it can be recovered for 2 months.
(3) Automatic replication of data to DR storage site at Office of Computer Services,
Kasetsart University. The data from the DR storage site can be immediately recovered to the
DC storage site in an emergency.

Backup and restore requirements
Backup requirements
1. The administrator must verify the information and the operation of the backup system
at least once a week
2. The administrator must explore and prioritize the data to determine the appropriate
backup frequency. The high-priority data should increase the backup frequency.
3. The administrator must create the backup flow chart or backup procedure and keep it up
to date.
4. The administrator must record the backup job and check if the backup was successful
or not, correct and report to the head of the Information Technology Department.
5. In case the backup cannot be performed Administrators must investigate, troubleshoot,
coordinate with relevant parties, and summarize the results of the problem solving in
the operating file and report to the supervisor.
6. The backup media must be health checked at least once a year and the
system administrator must prepare a backup equipment procurement plan.
7. The backup media such as magnetic tapes, CD/DVDs that can be moved must be
deposited in a bank safe.
Restore requirements
1. In case of any damage that causes data recovery, the administrator must investigate,
troubleshoot, and summarize the results of the problem solving in the operating file
and report to the supervisors in the hierarchy.
2. If damage occurs to the computer system and network system affecting the service or use
of the user, the administrator must notify the user immediately along with the report
data recovery progress until the process is complete.
3. The Administrator must test restore the information system and backed up data to
rehearse a recovery plan and check the correctness of the backed-up data at least twice a
year.
