Law have a new option that will allow them to earn a degree with
one summer term on campus and two terms of online study. The
new hybrid LL.M. option is for students who are unable to take a
full year away from work. The school also has an LL.M. option for
lawyers educated outside the U.S. that consists of two consecutive
summers at the San Francisco-area campus. Applications are now
being accepted for both versions of the LL.M. program.

affect LL.M. students

issue for LL.M. students and graduates.
Immigration is a highly complex issue
further complicated by constantly moving
targets. Please use this article as a starting
point to inform yourself. Your immigra-
tion status is not to be taken lightly, and
I strongly encourage everyone to discuss
their situation with a qualified attorney.
Let’s take a look at willful misrepresen-
tations in visa interviews and the effect
H-1B changes have on LL.M. graduates.

Willful Misrepresentation

other countries to seek

The good news is that graduates of
foreign law schools with an LL.M. earned
at an ABA-approved law school qualify for
the bar exam. However, the LL.M. degree
must have been awarded within 24 months
of matriculation, and the program must
have required a minimum of 24 credits.
Accelerated programs and summer pro-
grams are not recognized. Furthermore, the
applicant’s foreign law degree must be based
on the principles of English Common Law
and be equivalent to a legal education from
an ABA-approved law school. Graduates
of foreign law schools who apply for the
bar exam in New York must also seek an

take up to six months.

What about California?

In California, the state bar allows graduates
of foreign law schools to take the bar exam
if they have earned an LL.M. degree. They
may also be eligible for the bar exam after

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees are a one-year, full-time program, designed to give graduates of foreign law schools
an opportunity to study the United States legal system and international law and trade, and to become truly capable
