Saving
Saving money is (0) easy than you think. The first thing you need to do is to set a goal. It could
be anything from (9) get a new phone to planning a trip with your friends. Then you need to calculate how
much you need to save up to reach your goal. Once you have (10) determines the amount, figure out how
much you can save each week. Then separate your spending money (11) with your savings money. One way
to ensure that you keep (12) any money aside is to save before you spend. This will get you into the regular
saving habit.
Before spending, you need to ask yourself whether it is a ‘need’ (13) and a ‘want’. One way to do
this is to keep a spending diary. Keep a notebook (14) when you track all your expenses. You can then look
back and see where all your money went. Did you actually spend your money wisely? Be honest with (15)
ourselves.
Finally, you can also earn money to help you achieve your goals more (16) quick. You can do odd
jobs around the house for a small fee, sell your preloved items, or get creative and sell your own products.

Ways to Deal with Stress

Good morning, teachers and students. Let me begin by expressing many thanks to Mr Finnn, the school
counsellor for inviting me to be here today. Seeing you reminds me of how it was when I was around your
age.

When I was a student, I used to feel very stressed. I did not share my problems with anyone. I was
afraid they would laugh at me because I was only teenager. However, I was not just a teenager.

(33) . Therefore, as a former teen and the Director of BE Wellness Centre, I am

here to share with you two simple ways to relieve stress.

First, remember B and B. The first B is back for step back. (34) .

Sometimes doing the same thing over and over again can be stressful. For example, it might be good to
take a break after spending many hours trying to solve a Math problem unsuccessfully. So, practice B and
B, take a step back and breathe deeply.

(35) . to avoid feeling stressed, remember E and E. The first E is exercise,

while the second E stands for endorphins. When we exercise, our bodies produce endorphins, which are
also called happy hormones. (36) .

More importantly, learn to speak about your problems with your loved ones. These are the people
who love you and will try to understand. I hope you will find my BB and EE methods useful. Thank you
for your attention.

A The second B is breathe , which means to breathe deeply.

B Stress can cause serious harm to our bodies.

C So, we should exercise regularly to keep happy hormones in our bodies.

D I was a teenager who faced genuine problems like physical changes, schoolwork, stress and
peer pressure.

A STRANGE ENCOUNTER

In a remote village known as Kampung Bruit, Rudy finishes his dinner with his family members. He then
starts to complete his school homework. He has an essay to write. He also has to complete a section in his
Geography portfolio and twenty question for Mathematics where he has to convert between percentage,
fractions and decimals. Earlier, he was busy practicing for his sepak takraw tournament after school. So,
he has to do all his homework now. He manages to complete them by midnight.

During this time of the night, silence rushes past the ears like water flowing over rapids.
Other than the occasional roar of car or motorcycle, the night is rather quiet and still. One can hear the
sound of crickets chirping in the background. (37) . His eyes catch sight of
flickering lights. Rudy observes the lights as if the stars have come down to earth.

‘What is happening? Are aliens landing?’ Rudy is lost in thought for a moment.

Rudy’s house is located right in front of an uninhabited island. That is not the first time that he notices
flickering light on the island. (38) . At first, he did not feel that anything weird
was happening, but the flickering lights have been playing on his mind.

Rudy is 120 centimeters in height. (39) . However, he is fearless and always

stands up for himself. (40) . He walks and walks. Then he sees something huge
and he could not believe his eyes. It is indeed a spaceship! Rudy’s jaw falls open in shock.

A He had seen the lights several times.

B One could say that he is not very tall for a 13-year-old boy.

C Rudy then looked out of his bedroom window.

D After much thought, Rudy decided to walk around and survey the island.
