district of the Jammu and Kashmir. It was the first hydropower project built by India in Kashmir under
the Indus Water Treaty regime.

Bhakra Dam is a concrete gravity dam (the second tallest dam in Asia) on the Sutlej River in Bilaspur,
Himachal Pradesh in northern India. The dam forms the Gobind Sagar reservoir. The dam, located at a
gorge near the Bhakra village in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh at the height of 226 m.
Its construction was started in 1948 and was completed in 1963.

The Tehri Dam is the highest dam in India and one of the highest in the world. It is a multi-purpose
project on the Bhagirathi River near Tehri in Uttarakhand, India. It is the primary dam of the THDC (Tehri
Hydro Development Corporation India Limited) and the Tehri hydroelectric complex.
Its Phase 1 construction was started in 1978 and was completed in 2006.

The Sardar Sarovar Dam is a concrete gravity dam built across the Narmada river in Kevadiya near
Navagam, Gujarat in India. Four Indian states, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan,
receive water and electricity supplied from the dam.
Its construction was started in April 1987 and was completed in 17 September 2017.

Hirakud Dam is built across the Mahanadi River, about 15 km. from Sambalpur in the state of Odisha in
India. The Dam is attached to a lake called Hirakud Reservoir, that is of 55 km long. It is one of the first
major multipurpose river valley projects started after India's independence.

between Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh and Nalgonda district, Telangana. The dam created a water
