1
Purpose
Find out how amino acids work in neutralizing the acid in out stomach.
Hypothesis
The 2 rolaids tablets would neutralize more of the hydrochloric acid in our intestines and our stomachs.
Materials
Congo red indicator Mortar and pestle
Ring stand Funnel
Buret Dilute HCl
Buret clamp Dropper
250 ml flask Goggles & apron
Several different antiacid tablets
Procedure
Describe all of the steps of the lab activity in the order in which they were performed. Use past, impersonal tense. E.g. “Th
.” And not, “I
put approximately 300 mL of distilled water in the beaker,” or “Put approximately 300 mL of distilled
water in the beaker.”
Observations and Results
Lab 1°
We use 48.8 ml of HCl with 2 tablets of the brand name Tums, they complete it dissolve and they turn a
soft light pink before adding the congo red. With the color in it turned maud shade of pink and then with
the acid it turned a mute shade of purple.
Lab 2°
We use 2 tablets of rolaids brand Tums with 44 ml of HCl. When we added the rolaids to the 100 ml of
water the tablets clumped up and slowly started to break down as we make contact with the acid. By
the end, when it had turned purple the tablets had not fully dissolved.
Lab 3°
We use 47 ml of HCl with 2 tablets of personelle, half of the tablets dissolved while the other half
floated on top with about a centimeter of peach shade of pink foam. After it stayed purple, the foam
and the residue of foam and tablet dust remain.

Analysis
Calculation 1: Seem to turned purple right away but returned to its pink shade, after proximately a
minute of letting the HCl slowly flow it turned completely purple and stay with periodic stops to test it.
Calculation 2: The tablets had been in a smooth powder form when it made contact with the water in
crumpled simultaneously

forget to show the units!
Conclusions
Refer back to the purpose of the lab and succinctly state your conclusion. Provide a summary of
experiment and explain how your results either support or refute your hypothesis. Explain the results in
terms of the relevant scientific principles including possible explanations for unexpected results. Identify
plausible sources of error.
Discussion
Discuss the implications of your findings for future research and what other possible investigations
might be warranted to further understanding in this area. Answer any additional questions asked in the
lab in this section.
