OWNER’S MANUAL 2 RECEIPT AND STORAGE
2 RECEIPT AND STORAGE
Immediately when having received the motor, check for damages that may have taken place
during the transportation. Verify that the rating plate data corresponds with that of the order. If
the motor is to be stored before taking into use it must be kept at a room temperature.

3 VENTILATION AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE OWNER’S MANUAL
REQUIREMENTS
3 VENTILATION AND AMBIENT TEMPERATURE REQUIREMENTS
Ambient temperature must not exceed 40°C (105°F), unless otherwise stated in the order. Flow
of cooling air must not be obstructed and the motor must be able to freely discharge the coolant
air. Air must not be directed back to the air intake.

OWNER’S MANUAL 4 TAKING A MOTOR INTO USE
4 TAKING A MOTOR INTO USE
1. Measure the insulation resistance of winding with 1000V megohmmeter.
2. Take a reading when test voltage has been connected for one minute.
In cold winding (10…40°C or 50…105°F), resistance should be higher than 5 MΩ. A warm
winding (≥40°C or ≥105°F) should show at least 1MΩ resistance.
3. If the resistance is lower than these values, the winding must be dried. To do this, place the
motor into a warm and well-ventilated oven. Oven temperature should be approximately
80°C or 175°F.

5 MAINTAINING THE MOTOR OWNER’S MANUAL
5 MAINTAINING THE MOTOR
1. Cleanliness of motor, which is vital for proper cooling. If necessary, remove dust and dirt.
2. Any vibration and noise. They always indicate problems, such as, bearing damage,
imbalance of rotating parts, misalignment, and so forth. Find out the reason for vibration
and noise.
3. Brake air gap. Check this every 12 months or, and in heavy duty, every 6 months.
4. Explosion-protection structure. Check that the flameproof housing and all cable glands are
undamaged.

OWNER’S MANUAL 6 CHECKING AND READJUSTING BRAKE AIR GAP
(MF10, MF13)
6 CHECKING AND READJUSTING BRAKE AIR GAP (MF10, MF13)
This information relates to motor sizes MF10 and MF13.
1. Remove fan cover fixing screws (1) and the cover (2).
2. Remove the retaining ring (3) and washer (4).
3. Turn open the screw(s) (5) that tighten(s) the clamp.
4. Pull the fan (6) from the shaft. To do this, take a firm grip from the opposite sides of the fan
rim and pull in turns.
5. Unscrew the end-shield fixing screw (7). In type MF10, there are 4 screws and in MF13,
there are 8 screws.
6. With a help of two big screwdrivers and slight hammering, take the end-shield (8) from the
stator.
NOTE There is no need to disassemble the fan shaft.
7. Disconnect the power supply cables from the terminal strip (13).
8. Unscrew the three brake fixing screws and pull out the brake.
9. Measure the thickness of the brake disc and compare the result with the values in table
Minimum thickness (S) of brake disc in Reassembling the motor (MF10, MF13) (page 13).
If the thickness is smaller than the value given in the table, replace the brake disc.
NOTE It is advisable to change the disc every time the brake is open.

8 CHECKING BRAKE AIR GAP (MF07)
This information relates to motor size MF07.
1. Loosen the 2 set screws (1) locking the terminal box cover (2).
2. To open the cover, turn it counterclockwise.
3. Disconnect the brake cables from the rectifier in the terminal box.
4. Loosen the two set screws (4) locking the cover (5).
5. To open the cover, turn it counterclockwise.
6. Remove the three brake fixing screws (6) and pull out the brake.

9 REASSEMBLING THE MOTOR (MF07)
1. Put the brake disc onto the hub on the motor shaft.
2. Thread the brake wires through the opening in the wall and through the hole at the bottom of
the terminal box.
3. Reconnect the brake wires to the rectifier.
4. Reassemble the brake body. Make sure that the brake fixing screws go through the hole in
the thin backing plate (8).
5. Tighten the screws to 2.5 Nm torque.
6. To reassemble both covers, turn them clockwise until the flange of the cover touches the
mating surface.
7. Tighten the two set screws in both covers. For the flameproof thread of junction box cover, it
is recommended to use lubricant (Mobilith SHC 460 or equivalent) to avoid damaging the
thread.
