Orangutan Habits and Tree Life

Orangutans live in the forests of Malaysia and other Asian countries. They build nests high in the trees to sleep in and will add branches to provide shelter if it rains. Their long arms and curved hands and feet allow them to easily swing from tree to tree to find food like fruit, nuts, bark, and sometimes insects or birds' eggs. The mothers help their babies cross wide gaps between trees. Orangutans get water from branches and leaves and their fur after it rains. Deforestation is a problem because it cuts down the important trees in their habitat.

Orangutans
As it gets dark in the forest across Malaysia and other Asian countries,
orangutans prepare for sleep. The word orangutan means people of the forest,
and these friendly apes like to sleep high off the ground, in tree
branches. Q.1 Sometimes they add a roof built from more branches in case it
rains.
(1)____________
They also use branches to make their beds more comfortable.
They have very long, powerful arms and curved hands and feet, which Q.2 help
them climb and swing between trees easily.
(2)____________
They grab the next branch with long hands or feet, and swing their bodies across
the gap, because their arms are so strong. They can go through the forest easily
swinging like this, and they stay up in the trees for hours.
The babies spend all the time with their mothers because the males like to be
alone. If a baby following its mother reaches Q.3 a gap between trees that is too
wide for it to swing across, the mother helps it.
(3)____________
Sometimes heavier males can't find branches strong enough to hold their weight,
so they climb down and walk to the next tree.
On the ground, orangutans walk on their hands and feet. They find their food in
the trees where they live, and more than half of what they eat is fruit. They also
eat nuts, bark, and other parts of plants and trees. Q.4 Sometimes they eat
insects such as ants and termites, or even birds eggs.
(4)____________
If not, they eat whatever they can get their hands on.
Orangutans also find the water they need for drinking up in the tree. There s lots
of water in the branches, on leaves, or even on their own fur after it
rains. Q.5 Trees are a very important part of their lives.
(5)____________
People do that because they want to clear the land for farming.
