I. Materials
Scissors stick pin
card board masking tape pencil with eraser
paste 4 small drinking cups thread or string
ballpen cap 2 barbeque sticks

Procedures
A. Making an improvised wind vane
1. Cut two cardboard arrows as shown

2. Paste the two arrows together with the small ballpen cap in between.

3. Go out and set your wind vane in a windy place.

4. Observe the direction of the wind.

B. Making an improvised anemometer

1. Tie the barbeque sticks with thread or string.

2. Tie the pin through the overlapping sticks.

3. Use the barbeque stick to punch a whole over the rim of each cup.

4. Insert each end of the barbeque sticks through the hole in each cup.

5. Push the ends of each barbeque stick through the inside of each cup. Be sure that the
openings of the cups in each stick face opposite directions. Each of the four cups should be
facing sideways.
6. Use a stick as a handle where you can hold with the stick and cups upright. Blow gently
into a cup. Observe what happens.

7. Use your improvised wind vane and anemometer to collect data on wind direction and
speed at the same time and place for five days. Record your observations in the table in
Results and Analysis
