DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL KALINGA CLASS 8 TRANSFORMATION OF SENTENCES, ‘Transformation of a sentence means changing its form to another kind without changing its meaning or sense. ‘You will learn 3 types of transformations now: a. Affirmative to Negative and vice versa b, Assertive to Interrogative and vice versa ¢. Assertive to exclamatory and vice versa A. Affirmative- Negative- Affirmative ‘Adding a negative- no, not, never, none ete Using the opposite of the word given in the affirmative sentence Eg: He is not at alla talkative boy He is a short boy. ‘Using the prefix in-, un-, dis-, mis, ir-,im- etc. Eg: He is not a patient man. He is an impatient man You can also add suffix like “less” to make it affirmative Eg: He does nat care about his studies. He is careless about his studies. While changing Negative to affirmative, change the phrases “do not”, “should not”, to “avoid” Eg: You should not go out in this heat You should avoid going out in the heat, Nothing” may change to “not anything” Eg: We were given nothing. We were not given anything We did not write anything We wrote nothing. The words “only” or may change to “no one but” or “none but” / “nothing but”. We may also use “except” in place of “but” Eg: L will marry only you. I will marry none but you. Always” changes to “never fail(s) to. Eg: James Bond movies always entertain, James Bond movies never fail to entertain. The words “forbidden” and “prohibited” change to “not allowed to” or “not permitted 10”. Eg: You are forbidden to carry mobile phones inside the Jagannath Temple. ‘You are not allowed to carry mobile phones inside Jagannath Temple. ‘Ex. 1. Transform the sentences to affirmative or negative. 1, Tam not familiar with this road. 2, Students are forbidden to wear smart watches 3. Watching sunsets at the beach never fails to make me feel good. 4, Twill do nothing till Tam told, 5. There are many RRR fans in Japan 6. Lwill have only bread and butter. 7.
