Describe Irom your experience the organizational structure oI a company you worked Ior
or an institute in which you studied. What type oI communication did you use? How eIIective
was it? Were there times you Ielt that the organization/institute Iailed to communicate
eIIectively? Why? Share your Iindings with six Iriends. Try to identiIy a pattern that shows a
direct link between the organizational structure and the internal communication.
My current organization uses the vertical communication pattern. Recently, my
organization reorganized Irom a typical government structure to a non-government business
organizational structure. This reorganization has hurt the organization`s communication process
to the point oI hurting its image. My organization was always among the top ten government
agencies to work Ior but it has dropped to number 221 in recent years. Why has it dropped?
The communication process within my organization is currently on the mend. I Ieel there
are too many layers oI management that have slowed the communication process. The
organizational charts are Ilooded with the number oI vice-presidents, it seems like everyone is a
president and oI course he/she has a vice-president. The organization`s disregard oI the signed
union contract has hurt the communication process in recent years. There have been many
proposals and issues that have died without being considered by management. The two-way
communication process is slowly returning aIter Ilowing in only one direction Ior years.
Management was dictating and the workIorce had no input whatsoever. The current
administration`s support Ior the labor unions has Iorced my organization to change its ways.
The organization is currently making an eIIort to reach out to the workIorce. Two surveys
are being conducted: Fatigue in the Workplace and Employee SatisIaction. There`s a section in
the My FAA web that an employee can input his/her concerns. HopeIully this trend is a lasting

one and not only because it is driven by the current administration. I would like to see my
organization return to being among the best government organizations to work Ior in the near
Iuture. There is no doubt lack oI communication in an organization can hurt an organization`s
success.
