1.1 General Information

Volkswagen vehicles are designed according to high safety
standards. To keep it that way, it is recommended to use only
genuine Volkswagen replacement parts. These can be recog‐
nized by the VW Audi logo and by the part number. These parts
are known to be reliable, safe and suitable.
Despite constant appraisal of the market, we cannot assess other
products on these points, even where in isolated cases they have
been passed by official inspectors or have been granted official
approval. Therefore, we cannot assume any liability if these prod‐
ucts are installed.

Note

♦ Products from Volkswagen Original Replacement Parts and

Volkswagen Accessories may differ in regards to assembly
requirements, tightening specifications, etc.
♦ Pay attention to the wheel bolt tightening specifications.
♦ Pay attention to the installation instructions.

The wheel and tire combinations or retrofit listed in the vehicle

tables refer exclusively to Volkswagen original disc wheels. Re‐
lease of wheel/tire combinations or retrofit with disc wheels from
the accessories trade is not possible with the enclosed approval
certificate.
Information About the Recommended Tires
♦ Tires are one of the most important construction elements of
a vehicle and significantly influence driving safety. Therefore,
the numerous requirements detailed in the DIN standards and
the W.d.K. (Trade association of the German rubber industry)
and tire manufacturers' guidelines must be fulfilled. In addition,
extensive tests are performed by Volkswagen before the tires
are approved for original equipment on our vehicles.
♦ The following lists all tire makes/treads with which VW vehicles
are equipped at the factory, at the time this guide was re‐
leased.
♦ These tire makes/treads fulfill the requirements named. We
therefore recommend using the tire makes/treads recommen‐
ded in this guide when equipping vehicles with new tires.
♦ Be sure to read the information regarding run-flat tires. Refer
to ⇒ Wheel and Tire Guide General Information; Rep. Gr. 44 .
♦ The winter tire sizes listed in the tables are the most sensible
in terms of dynamic and economical driving. In principle, all
other wheel/tire combinations listed in the Certificate of Con‐

formity or in the vehicle registration Part I can be installed as

M & S tires.

5 Recommended Spare Tires and

Emergency Wheels
If necessary, explain to the customer the information about tires
and refer the customer to the Owner's Manual.
The notes listed in the following also apply to spare wheels, e.g.
6.5 J x 16 with 205/55 R 16 tires, which are marked with the let‐
tering “MAX 80 km/h” or “MAX 50 mph” on a yellow sticker.

Note

♦ The vehicle may have a spare wheel with the above mentioned
sticker in place of an emergency wheel, depending on the ve‐
hicle equipment.
♦ Emergency wheel/spare wheel is designed only for sporadic
and brief use. Therefore it is to be replaced with the normal
wheel again as soon as possible.
♦ After mounting the emergency wheel/spare wheel, tire inflation
pressure must be checked as soon as possible.
♦ The tire pressures are listed on the tire pressure label on the
inside of the fuel filler door and on the B-pillar on the driver
side.
♦ Always observe the speed rating on the spare tire on the
emergency wheel (“MAX 80 km/h” or “MAX 50 mph”).
♦ Wide Open Throttle (WOT) acceleration, strong braking and
rapid driving around curves should be prevented.
♦ Never drive with more than one emergency wheel/spare
wheel.
♦ It is not permissible to use snow chains on the emergency
wheel for technical reasons.
♦ If it is necessary to drive with snow chains, then for a front axle
breakdown the emergency wheel must be installed on the rear
axle. The freed-up rear wheel must then be mounted in place
of the faulty front wheel.
