Course Learning Rationale (CLR):
CLR-1: This course helps to build and practice programming skills with mathematical foundation.
CLR-2: The course focuses on delivering knowledge and hands-on experience about R programming language
for data analysis and various related and fundamental operations.
CLR-3: This course cumulatively gives great exposure to application of calculus for real life problem solving.
CLR-4 This course aims for student’s overall mathematical level with a programming approach to develop.
CLR-5: This course helps to learn fundamental statistical concepts with R programming.
CLR-6: This course develops applied mathematical skills and aptitude.

Introduction to Statistics:
Definition of Statistics. Basic objectives. Applications in various branches of science with
examples. Collection of Data: Internal and external data, Primary and Secondary Data.
1 Population and sample, Representative sample. Descriptive Statistics: Classification and 15
tabulation of univariate data, graphical representation, Frequency curves. Descriptive
measures - central tendency and dispersion. Bivariate data. Summarization, marginal and
conditional frequency distribution.
Probability:
Concept of experiments, sample space, event. Definition of Combinatorial Probability.
Conditional Probability, Bayes Theorem. Probability distributions: discrete & continuous
2 distributions, Binomial, Poisson and Geometric distributions, Uniform, Exponential, Normal, 15
Chi-square, t, F distributions. Expected values and moments: mathematical expectation and
its properties, Moments (including variance) and their properties, interpretation, Moment
generating function
