INCIDENT NEWSFLASH

NLNG-T7SA-24-0012 Dropped Crane Boom at New Flare Area


Target Audience:
NLNG Owners Team, EPC and Sub-Contractors

What Happened?
On July 30th, 2024, at 17:55, a sub-contractor crawler crane Terex CC6800 used for the new flare works
finalization was booming down after the close of day’s activities when the wire connecting the back mast with
the boom head broke and the boom fell to ground. At the time of the incident, the boom was already almost
completely extended and laying on the ground. The boom descent was monitored by riggers at a safe distance,
the area was segregated. The daily boom down at the end of the working day was a mitigation measure to
control the risk of lightning. No injury was reported but the crane boom was damaged. Investigation is in
progress.

Immediate Action Taken?


• Incident scene was barricaded
• Joint site visit conducted and safety standdown session was held for quick reflection on the incident.
• Flare stack construction activity was suspended for site reassessment.
• Team constituted to commence detailed Investigation.

Incident Potential and Actual Severity:


The incident per NLNG 2020 RAM had the following ratings:
• Actual: Asset -2 (Minor Damage)
• Potential: Asset – 3C (Moderate Damage)
