Quantitative Methods with

Modeling and Simulation –

Exercise #1
1. Define the Problem
- Research interests from case study owners are elaborated, problem
statement is identified, and expectations of the research outcomes are
agreed.

2. Specify Purpose
- The purpose of the simulation experiments, in the form of an aim &
objectives, is specified.

3. Data Collection and Model Conceptualization

- Data information and simulation models is specified and collected as input
data for the simulation experiment.
- Defined and built-up conceptual model in order to represent relationships
that are relevant to the research problem.

4. Develop Simulation Model

- To represent the defined research problem.
- Software tool in which the simulation model will be implemented is
selected.
- A computer-based simulation model of the conceptual model is developed
using the selected simulation method and tool.

5. Conduct Verification Validation Experiment

Verification:
- Focus on checking whether the simulation model gives reliable and
anticipated outputs for given inputs.
Validation:
- Validation experiments are conducted using revised simulation model.

6. Verify and Validate

Verification:
- Simulation results from verification experiments are reviewed and verified.
Validation:
- Results from the validation experiments are validated against specified
validation methods and indicators.
7. Conduct Simulation
- Simulation experiments are conducted to simulate real-world operational
scenarios. Simulation results are analyzed and discussed.

8. Documentation
- Instructions and documents supporting the simulation model and
simulation experiments are developed.

9. Implementation
10. Maintenance
Answer:
1. Online Portal for the Faculty of Information Technology in PUP Sta.Mesa.

2. The main objective of the modeling and simulation process regarding the
problem is to develop a system (or more specifically, an Online Portal) for the
Faculty of the Information Technology department in the Polytechnic
University of the Philippines, Sta. Mesa branch. Some side objectives are to
develop it for longevity, for the system to be efficiently maintained, and for
the system to be able to accept and manage old and new data for old and
new faculty.

3. In the Data collection process, conducting a survey on the target clientele

regarding what they would like as a feature and/or added functionality for the
system would greatly influence how the system would be developed. The
survey would also serve as a basis for what the baseline of needed
information of the faculty managed in the system as well as how the system
will behave once developed.

4. Using Figma for the UX/UI design, it is paramount to develop a basic website
design for the system to get an idea of what would be the final model.
Developing the different functions as well as how the portal would look. The
model should be developed to a point where the system can output the
necessary information needed as well as be optimal in terms of user
experience. After which, using either CSS or JavaScript, we’re to develop a
model which will accept the information collected and integrate it into the
website for recall of data and verification of identity when accessing the
portal.

5. Conduct Verification Validation Experiment by using the information collected

in step 3, creating a profile, and accessing different information that a
professor may or may not require when using the online portal.

6. If there are any inaccuracies or lacking functionality, we are to conduct data

collection again and develop another system based on the new information
gathered.

7. Once the system is verified and validated as successful, we can conduct a

simulation by letting some faculty try the system and create profiles for each
one. As well as supply the necessary information needed to verify their
identity as faculty and provide security.
8. Documentation will begin once the system has been integrated in the school.
Documenting all the ins and outs of the system as well as how the code
works will help with maintenance in the future.

9. Implementing the online portal in the university once all the faculty members
have been supplied with their own profile and security password.

10.Maintenance will occur every month following the documentation and the
simulation as reference for maintaining the system as well as allow for
improvement.
