ASSIGNMENT
Make a research about any symptoms/ abnormalities /diseases associated with the death of cells and tissues of plants .
Symptoms/disease /abnormalities Photo(actual ) Description/ Causes
1. Chlorosis Involves the death of the chloroplast,
Chlorosis is a condition in plants due to
a lack of chlorophyll. It results in the
yellowing of leaves of plants. It mainly
happens due to a lack of nutrients to
synthesize sufficient chlorophyll. It can
be cured by providing nutrients such as
magnesium, zinc, sufficient sunlight,
etc.
2. Necrosis Necrosis is the death of plant tissues,
which appears as brown or black spots
on leaves, stems, or roots. It is caused
by environmental stress like extreme
temperatures, drought, or infections by
pathogens such as fungi or bacteria.
Once necrosis starts, the affected
tissues lose function, causing plant
health to decline. Regular plant care,
like watering and pest control, can
prevent necrosis. Pruning dead areas
may help slow down the spread.
3. Wilting Wilting occurs when plant cells lose
water and cannot maintain turgor
pressure, causing them to droop. This
can be caused by insufficient water
supply, either from drought or root
damage. Overwatering can lead to root
rot, preventing roots from absorbing
water. High temperatures can also
increase transpiration, leading to faster
water loss. Ensuring proper watering
practices can help prevent wilting.
4. Canker Canker is a disease characterized by
sunken, dead areas on stems or
branches. It is often caused by fungal
pathogens that invade the plant's
tissues. The disease can spread during
wet conditions, leading to more
extensive damage. Cankers disrupt the
plant's ability to transport nutrients and
water. Control measures include
removing infected parts and improving
air circulation around the plant.
5. Blight Blight is a rapid death of leaves, stems,
or flowers, resulting in browning or
blackening of the affected parts. It is
usually caused by fungal or bacterial
infections, spreading quickly under
warm, moist conditions. Blight can
severely damage plant health by killing
essential tissues. Early detection and
removal of infected areas, along with
fungicide treatments, can control
blight. Keeping plants dry and
improving airflow helps prevent it.
