MASTER’S RESEARCH PLAN
Title:
DEVELOPMENT OF ENERGY CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES IN THE INDUSTRIAL
SECTOR IN MOZAMBIQUE
1. Research background
Currently, energy efficiency is one of the main concerns in the industry. To achieve energy
efficiency objectives, companies are increasingly turning to the most advanced technologies.
These technologies allow for a reduction in energy consumption, which results in very
significant savings in operating costs, in addition to increasing competitiveness.
One of the technologies that is being widely used in industry is industrial automation. These
systems allow industrial processes to be controlled efficiently and precisely, significantly
reducing energy waste. Additionally, they allow industry operators to monitor energy usage in
real time, which helps identify and correct energy efficiency bottlenecks.
Industry in Mozambique is growing year after year, which boosts the country's economy, but
new energy sources are required in order to supply industries with quality energy. Mozambique
is a country in the process of revitalizing its industry, with considerable industrial production
rates. The manufacturing industry is the third sector that contributes most to GDP, with an
average share of 9.0% from 2014 to 2016 and a contribution of 8.6% in the first half of 2017.
2. Research motivation
The industrial sector is one of the fastest growing sectors at national level, most industries lack
energy control technologies, industrial policies and better infrastructure. In Mozambique, the
industry mostly lacks autonomous technological infrastructure resources, which makes the
production process slow and expensive. Energy security has put the industrial sector at risk, as
well as economic development due to the lack of quality energy, to power industrial plants in a
safe, secure and stable way.
Therefore, the development of industrial energy technologies and policies is one of the solutions
for energy security in the country. Industries in Mozambique do not have a dynamic and
sustainable nature and this does not accelerate their growth and consequently the development of
the community where they are located.
3. Research objectives
General Objective
Develop energy control technologies in the industrial sector in Mozambique.
Specific Objectives
Situate energy control technologies in the industrial sector in Mozambique;
Describe industrial energy control technologies;
Present sustainable industrial policies;
Propose energy control technologies and models in the industrial sector in Mozambique.
4. Methodologies
The development of this project will initially be carried out with a systematic review of the
literature, of an exploratory and descriptive nature, on the proposed topic, in order to synthesize
information and limit the scope of the topics covered, through consultations in publications in
databases in the Internet.
Then explore the area of industrial engineering at a European and French level in particular.
Being able to use bibliographical research to acquire concepts related to research in order to
support the ideas and opinions involved in carrying out the research. Field research will be used
through studies and tests in laboratories, workshops, internships and study visits in industries, in
the hope of collecting real and relevant data for research.
Several industrial process design methodologies have been developed under the umbrella of
process integration. These methodologies, in general, do not aim to create new types of
equipment or unit operations. In fact, they seek to ensure that existing process technologies are
selected and interrelated in the most effective way, thereby optimizing capital and energy costs.
5. Selected research program
I identified universities such as the University of Lille, University Grenoble Alpes, and
University of Artois. These universities have a master's program in industrial engineering, and
other training that is in line with my professional aspirations. The chosen training will add value
and skills in analysis, industrial project management, and project planning in terms of
quality/cost/time, project feasibility study and technological innovation in the industrial sector.
With these training courses I intend to acquire knowledge in the development of industrial
technologies and industrial sustainability in order to adapt the production process and
technological methods that increase industrial productivity.
Having the skills mentioned above, I can be an industrial consultant, industrial project manager,
in partnership with the ministry of industry and the Mozambican government to develop
technological, fiscal and sectoral policies to improve infrastructure, improve industrial
productivity in the country and promote industrialization and attract investors. It is also possible
to have an excellent career in the metallurgical, automotive, aeronautical, transport, energy
generation and oil and gas industries.
The chosen program, students are organized into groups representing the different functions of a
company (research office, methods office, quality department, CIO, etc.), working on concrete
projects. Research internship and preparation for interviews. Document research workshops in
different media and locations; Solid links with the workplace and industry. With this opportunity
to interact with research laboratories, it is possible to become a researcher in the industrial area
