Q5.Comprehension Passage:

Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, stands tall at 8,848 meters (29,029 feet)
above sea level. Located in the Himalayas on the border between Nepal and China, Everest
has attracted thousands of climbers from around the globe, many of whom seek to reach its
summit. Climbing Everest is not an easy feat, requiring extensive preparation, training, and
acclimatization to the extreme altitude.

The first successful ascent was made by Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing
Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, on May 29, 1953. Since then, the mountain has seen both triumphs
and tragedies. Climbers face numerous challenges, including unpredictable weather,
avalanches, and the risk of altitude sickness. Despite these dangers, Everest continues to
captivate adventurers.

Environmental concerns have also become prominent in recent years. The growing number of
climbers has led to an increase in waste and pollution on the mountain, prompting efforts to
preserve Everest’s natural beauty. Initiatives to clean up the mountain and enforce stricter
climbing regulations are now in place to protect this iconic peak.
