Suspense Story
The phone rang. Fumbling across the table, Sam
reached out for it. “What time is it?”, he wondered
sleepily. As the screen flashed an unknown number,
the echo of the rings filled the quiet of the night. It was
past midnight. Who could be calling at this hour?
Wearily, Sam answered the call.
A woman was screaming. Once the screaming stopped,
a rough, frightened voice said, “I really need your
help.” “Is that you, Sara?”, asked Sam wearily, for the
voice sounded familiar. Suddenly, the call got
disconnected.
Sam was wide awake now. He threw off his white
blanket, wore his slippers and ran as fast as lightning to
his roommate, John. John woke up with a fright when
Sam started shaking him hard.
“What happened?”, asked John, gasping with a mix of
emotions.
“I just got a call from a person who sounded like Sara
and she was asking for help. What should we do?”,
Sam replied.
“Are you sure it was Sara?” said John.
“You are a heavy sleeper and you might have made a
mistake.”
“No, I’m sure it was Sara!” insisted Sam angrily.
“Alright,” muttered John with a shrug, though he still
wasn’t convinced. Suddenly, John’s phone rang.
When he picked it up, the voice on the other end said
some words that convinced John that Sam was right.
“Sara’s chilling voice said that she was in a derelict
village on the outskirts of a deserted forest”, said John.
“I really think we should go help her.”
“I’m not so sure”, said Sam, gazing towards the
window, which displayed the dreary, moonless night.
“We have to go help Sara!”, said John in a firm but
determined voice. “Alright, we’ll go!”, said Sam, finally
giving in to his flatmate.
After an hour or two, they reached the village Sara had
mentioned. The whole place was run down, dirty and
neglected.
“Are you sure we should have come here?”, asked Sam
fearfully. John nodded and they both started screaming
out Sara’s name. They saw a shadow whisk past them
and chills went down their spine. Suddenly, in the
middle of the continuous howls of the chilly wind, the
two boys heard Sara scream…
