A long time ago, back in 1880, the Darling family lived in the city of
London. It consisted of Mr. and Mrs. Darling and their children: Wendy,
Michael and John. Not forgetting Nana, of course, the nanny dog.
They lived happily and peacefully until Peter Pan came into their lives. It
all started the night Nana had the day off and Mrs. Darling was left to take
care of her children. When everyone, including her, was asleep, the boy
entered through the window. But then she woke up and was so frightened
at the sight of him that she uttered a loud scream. Then Nana appeared,
who closed the window to prevent him from coming out and ended up
catching his shadow. And so it was that Peter Pan's shadow ended up in a
drawer of the Darling house.
One night Mr. and Mrs. Darling went out to dinner at the house of the
neighbors at No. 27. The children stayed at home in Nana's care and soon
they all fell asleep.
But when the house was quiet, a tiny fairy came in fluttering at high speed
and behind her, Peter Pan, ready to regain his shadow. He found it in the
drawer in which Nana had kept it, but he was very sad when he saw that
the shadow was not following him. He tried to stick it with soap but it
didn't work and in desperation he sat on the floor to cry.
- Who's crying? Wendy asked, who was awakened by sobs.
"It's me," Peter replied
-What's your name? - asked the girl, although she was almost sure she
knew who it was
- Peter Pan
- And what's wrong with you, Peter?
- That I can't get my shadow to stick to me
-Take it easy. I think I'll be able to sew it for you
Wendy helped Peter and the two children began to become friends.
- I live in Neverland. It's wonderful, you're always a child there and you
don't have to obey anyone. With me live the Lost Children, you know, the
children who fall out of the carts when the babysitter looks away. There
are also pirates, fairies, Indians and all kinds of beings.
Peter said he was very happy there, although he acknowledged that he
and the Lost Boys would like someone to tell them stories like she did with
her brothers. Peter proposed to go with him to Neverland, and Wendy
immediately thought it was a wonderful idea.
- But what about my siblings? Can they come too?
- If you want, of course!
-Terrific!
Wendy woke Michael and John and Peter to begin her journey. But before
leaving, Peter explained to them that they had to learn to fly. He poured
some fairy dust over them, and soon the three children began to rise
through the air. Everyone thought it was very funny and began to walk
around the house and more. They made such a stir that they ended up
waking Nana.
Peter heard her coming so they could get back to their beds quickly as if
nothing had happened. Thus, when the nurse entered the room she
thought that the three of them were sleeping peacefully.
But Nana was uneasy, and was almost sure that something strange was
going on in the nursery, so she ran to tell Mr. and Mrs. Darling. But when
they returned, the children were gone. The three of them had left for
Neverland, nervous and excited to live that fantastic adventure.
They flew for days across oceans but eventually reached Neverland.
The first they saw from the air was the fearsome Captain Hook, Peter
Pan's worst enemy. In a fight long ago Peter had managed to snatch his
right hand and so the pirate now had a hook in his place. But he handled it
perfectly and that, together with his desire for revenge, made him very
dangerous. Although there was something that Captain Hook was afraid
of: the crocodile. Once he was about to eat it and so now he wanted
nothing but him. Luckily the captain threw a watch at him and that's why
he now ticked every time he approached.
They reached the place where the Lost Children were. But Tinker Bell, who
was very jealous of Wendy because she was with Peter all the time, went
ahead to plot something.
"Peter says you attack Wendy," he said to the Lost Boys.
-I agree! - they all answered in unison running for their bows and arrows
So the children began shooting their bows and arrows at Wendy and her
siblings. But fortunately nothing happened to them.
As soon as Peter came behind them all he gave them a big scolding.
- But what do you do? On top of that, I bring you a mother to tell you
stories, you receive her like this!
The Lost Boys, who were dressed in the skins of the bears they hunted,
apologized and Peter introduced them to Wendy and the others.
- These are Tootles, Slightly, Nibs, Curly, and the twins
"Hello," replied the girl, "These are my brothers Michael and John and I am
Wendy.
Wendy and her siblings decided to stay there and together with the Lost
Boys and Peter they formed a large family that lived happily in their
underground lair.
One day the children were playing in the Mermaid Lagoon, specifically in
the Rock of the Forsaken, when something strange happened. Suddenly
the sun disappeared completely, it became night, and in the shadows
appeared a boat with two of Hook's pirates, Smee and Starkey, who were
carrying the Indian princess Tigridia as a prisoner. Peter, Wendy, and the
others hid and watched as Tigridia was thrown onto the Rock of the
Forsaken. Then Peter came up with an idea.
- Let her go! - he said to the pirates imitating the voice of Captain Hook
-Captain? - said the two pirates looking around
"You have heard me! Do it!
So the pirates cut the ropes that were holding the princess. Then Captain
Hook appeared across the lagoon on board his ship. He went to tell them
that he knew that the Lost Boys had found a mother and there was no
way they could allow it.
- We will kidnap them, force them to throw themselves overboard and
Wendy will become our mother.
-Yes! It's a great idea, captain!, replied Smee and Starkey
Wendy turned pale at this, and Peter, who could not stand any longer
silent, again imitated Hook's voice. But this time the pirate was smarter
than on other occasions and knew that it was Peter Pan. He found it and
fought it until he managed to wound it with his hook, while the children
escaped in the boat. Wendy was saved thanks to the help of the
mermaids and the kite that Michael had lost a few days earlier and that
appeared there, while Peter managed to survive thanks to the help of the
Neverland bird.
This adventure made Peter a great friend of the Redskins Indians, for they
were grateful to him for having saved the princess Tigridia and promised
to defend him with their bows and arrows from the attack of pirates.
One night Wendy was telling the children her bedtime story when she
talked about mothers, how good and attentive they are to their children.
Peter did not agree with Wendy's ideas and argued with her and at the
same time the girl's brothers began to feel nostalgic so they all decided
that the time had come to return home.
"We'll leave tonight," Wendy replied sharply
The Lost Boys were very sad to hear this and decided that they would
leave with her. Not so Peter, who in no way wanted to leave Neverland. At
least he cared that Tinker Bell and the Redskins would accompany the
children through the woods on their way back to England.
But on their way back, new complications arose. The pirates knew that
they were going to pass through and were waiting for them perched on
the trees of the forest. The children, and neither could Peter Pan, expect
something like this, so they were caught off guard.
Meanwhile Hook went to Peter's secret lair, where the boy spent his time
in solitude pretending that he didn't mind being left alone. The pirate hid
inside a log and waited for Peter to fall asleep to pour into a glass that the
boy had by his bed some of the secret and deadly poison he always
carried with him. This time he would manage to finish him off.
But in the middle of the night Tinker Bell came to tell Peter what had
happened, and to warn him that he knew that Captain Hook had poured
poison into his glass. So Peter rushed out with his guns ready to rescue
the children.
Peter made it to the pirates' ship, the Jolly Roger, a sinister ship on which
the children were about to be forced to jump over the gangway into the
sea.
The pirates were tying Wendy to the mainmast at that moment when
suddenly something that no one expected sounded... Tick-tock, tick-tock,
tick-tock...
- It's that damn crocodile! Quick, Smee, hide me! Don't let him catch
me!" shouted Hook in panic
But there was no crocodile there, it was Peter, who had cleverly
impersonated him. as soon as Hook went to his cabin to hide, Peter
jumped onto the deck of the ship and began to finish off the pirates one
by one. But from his chambers Hook stopped hearing the ticking and
thought that the crocodile had fled and could come out again.
On his way out, Hook found several dead pirates. Nobody knew what
exactly had happened, so everyone began to think that the ship was
cursed, since it is known that pirates are somewhat superstitious. They
were about to throw Wendy overboard, convinced that she was the one
who attracted bad luck, when Peter came out of hiding to avoid it.
- Cheeky young man, prepare to die! – said Hook
- Nothing like that, damn Captain Hook! It's not my time but yours! -
answered the brave Peter Pan
They engaged in a violent sword fight and in the end Hook ended up
seriously wounded in the ribs, so much so that he saw no way out and
decided to throw himself overboard without knowing that the crocodile
was
Moraleja:
This story tells us about many different values embodied in two of its main
characters. On the one hand we have Peter Pan, an example of bravery, who
shows that with his ingenuity and intelligence he is capable of defeating Captain
Hook, much stronger than him. On the other hand we have the sweet Wendy,
who teaches us the value of kindness through the way she behaves with her
siblings and with the Lost Boys.
