VIEWING: OBJECT PROPERTIES
 Object properties control the appearance and behavior of objects, and are used
to organize a drawing.
 Every object has general properties including its layer, color, linetype,
linetype scale, lineweight, transparency, and plot style.
 In addition, objects have properties that are specific to their type. For example,
the special properties of a circle include its radius and area.
 When you specify the current properties in a drawing, all newly created objects
use those settings automatically. For example, if you set the current layer to
Dimensions, the objects that you create will be on the Dimensions layer.
 You can set some properties of an object either by layer (ByLayer), or by
specifying the property explicitly, independent of its layer.

MODEL SPACE VS PAPER SPACE

 There are two distinct working environments

 Model Space: a limitless 3D drawing area where you start working in by
default. You set whether one unit represents one millimeter, one centimeter,
one inch, one foot, or whatever unit is most convenient. You then draw at
1:1 scale.
 Paper Space: used to prepare your drawing for printing.

 Show Tabs / Panels / Panel Titles
 Tool Palette Group
UNITS

 Units do not belong to any measurement

system, user decides the equivalence of
units.
 Command: UNITS
 Controls the precision and display formats
for coordinates, distances, and angles.
 You should define units (milimeters for
this course) to ease scaling when
importing or exporting (units are to be
defined when required).

STYLES

 You can define ready to use styles to prevent their identification in each use:
 Under Annotation Panel
 Text Style
 Dimension Style
 Multileader Style
 Table Style
 3 click to draw dimension

TEMPLATES
 New drawings start from either a default or custom drawing template file
 Drawing template file: is a drawing file (.dwt file) that specifies the styles,
settings, and layouts in a drawing, including title blocks. Includes settings on:
 Units of measure and measurement style (UNITS),
 Drafting settings (DSETTINGS),
 Layers and layer properties (LAYER),
 Linetype scale (LTSCALE),
 Dimension styles (DIMSTYLE),
 Text styles (STYLE),
 Layouts with layout viewports and scales (LAYOUT),
 Plot and publishing settings (PAGESETUP)

SAFETY OF DATA

 Safety of your drawing data

 Use backup files
 In the Options dialog box Open and Save tab you can
specify that backup files are created when you save
drawings (.bak files).

Reference: Autodesk AutoCAD 2020 - Help, AutoCAD User's Guide, Manage Drawing and Other Files
 Save your drawing automatically at specified intervals
 If you turn the automatic save option on, your drawing is saved at
specified time intervals (.sv$ files).
 The temporary files (files related with commands, e.g., undo) are
automatically deleted when a drawing closes normally. In the event of
a program/power failure, these files are not deleted.
 Rename the .bak/.sv$ file in Windows/File Explorer to a .dwg file.

UNDO, REDO AND OOPS!

 Command UNDO: reverses the effect of commands (Shortcut: Ctrl+Z).

 Command REDO: reverses the effects of previous UNDO (Shortcut: Ctrl+Y).

 Undo and Redo commands are also available on "Quick Access Toolbar".

 Command OOPS: restores objects erased by the last ERASE command,

even if it has not been the last command you used.

LAYERS
 Layers are the primary method for organizing the objects in a drawing by
function or purpose.
 Layers can reduce the visual complexity of a drawing and improve display
performance by hiding information that you don’t need to see at the moment.
 In a house plan, you might create layers for the foundation, floor plan, doors,
fixtures, electrical, and so on.
 In this example, the display is limited to the objects on the Floor Plan layer by
turning off the other layers.

LAYERS

 Grouping similar objects
 Enabling quick select of objects
 Turning a layer on/off for displaying/printing  layon command
 Locking layers to prevent unwanted changes
 It provides consistency in drawing. If you prefer to create a specific object
with a different property, you can change Object Properties, which will
make it free from the changes made to its layer.
 HOME  "Layer Properties" to create and manage layers
 Add layer
 Double click to make it current layer

 Use the Layer Properties Manager to manage your layers, Command: LAYER
 Create, rename, and remove layers
 Set the current layer on which new objects are automatically created
 Specify the default properties for objects on the layer
 Set whether the objects on a layer are displayed or turned off
 Control whether objects on a layer are plotted

LAYERS
 Linetypes can be a pattern of dashes, dots, text, and symbols, or unbroken and
continuous. Increasing lineweights results in thicker, darker lines.

 Linetype scale controls the size and spacing of repetitions of the linetype
pattern for each drawing unit.
