MY PERSONALDEVELOPMENT

PLAN
NAME: __________________________________ DATE: __________________

PA RT I

1. Create a eulogy
Let's begin with the end in mind. What kind of life do you imagine for yourself? Use the
following lines to write a short eulogy that reflects the best life you could ever imagine for yourself.

For example:

(Your name) lived a wonderful life and was remembered by her family and friends forever.

2. The Time Experiment

A person's life expectancy is about 80 years. On the next page is a grid of 8 rectangles (each
with ten smaller rectangles inside). Each small rectangle represents a year of your life. Shade in the
number of years that you have already lived. If you are 18 years old, shade in 1 large rectangle and
8 smaller ones.

Now shade off a third of the remainder - this represents the sleeping you are yet to do.

Next, shade off 50% of the remainder. According to the United Kingdom Time Use Survey, we
spend about:
5 years of our lives eating and drinking (6.25% of our lives)
8 years doing household chores (10% of our lives)
10 years working and studying (12.5 of our lives)
2 years spent on personal care (2.5% of our lives)
5 years commuting and traveling (6.25% of our lives)
9 years watching television (11.25% of our lives)
1 year spent on meetings (1.25% of our lives)

Finally, think of anything else that takes up your time that hasn’t been accounted for and shade it
out.

1
Consider your reaction to this exercise:
 How much space is left on the grid?
 What have you learned about your time and priorities?
 Make a brief note of your thoughts and feelings below.

PART II

1. Secret Mentors

Before we narrow in on your goals, let's get to understand what you want and like in life.

In the lines below, answer the question: 'Who do I look up to and why?' You can include
anyone from your family to celebrities and businesspeople you admire. Think about what
specifically you like about these people and notice if there are any similarities between the people
you write down.

2. Areas of Improvement

Before we narrow in on your goals, let's get a high-level understanding of what you want
and like in life.
Name at least 5 key areas of your life do you want to improve in?

3
3. Top 10 Goals
Based on the areas you identified in number 2, write down your top 10 goals. For best
results, try not to overthink - but be specific. You should actually challenge yourself to do this in
1 minute. Why? The goals that are truly most important come to mind naturally within that short
amount of time.

A SWOT analysis is a tool used to identify an organization's strengths, weaknesses,

opportunities and threats. You can use this framework to help you make sense of the path to
achieving your goal.

3. Let’s get to work

Chip, chip, chip away! Working on smaller targets will help you achieve your goal.

Fill in the chart with smaller targets or stepping stones to reach your goal. Set a
reminder on your phone for a date you will check back on each target. On that date, come
back and write an update in the last column.

If you've met the target, pat yourself on the back! If you didn't meet the target,
write down what happened in the notes section below, and see if you can create a new
or modified target based on your findings.

Feel free to make updates in the chart as necessary, adding further smaller targets
if your goal turns out to be more complicated than you expected!

After completing the 10 goals.

Congratulations! You’ve completed your personal development plan.
