ABSTRACT
The phenomena of periodic functions occur quite frequently in
mathematics, physics and engineering applications. Therefore, it is an
important practical problem to represent the corresponding periodic
functions in terms of simple periodic functions such as sine and cosine.
In this work, we consider the Fourier series expansion of s trigonometric
sine sinusoidal periodic function: y(x,t) = a sin (kx + wt), which is acting
within the permitted region of space: -π < x < π. The periodic function
could be the description of motion of some particle of mass, m with
energy, E moving under the influence of some finite potential field, V. It is
revealed in this study, that within the classically allowed region of space,
the Fourier series solution of the sine periodic function are real and non-
degenerate, and the approximate wave function is oscillatory with
decreasing amplitudes as the frequency mode, n becomes very large.
FOURIER THEORY
Fourier Theory was named after the French scientist
and an applied mathematician, Joseph Fourier.
Fourier Theory is a mathematical method to
decompose any periodic function or signal into a sun
of simple sine and cosine waves of different
frequencies, amplitudes and phases.
Fourier Transform is the mathematical operation that
transforms a time-domain signal into its frequency-
domain representation.
PERIODIC FUNCTIONS
A periodic function or cyclic function is a function that
repeats it's values at regular intervals.
For example, the trigonometric functions, which repeat
at intervals of radians, are periodic functions.
Periodic functions are used throughout science to
describe oscillations, waves, and other phenomena that
exhibit periodicity.
The following are some examples of linear periodic
function and sine periodic functions:
OTHER KIND OF FUNCTIONS
Non-Periodic Function: A non-periodic function is a
mathematical function that does not repeat its values at
regular intervals, meaning its graph does not exhibit a
repeating pattern.
Quasi-periodic function: A quasi-periodic function is a
mathematical function that exhibits a repeating pattern,
but with some irregularities or variations in the repetition,
making its period not strictly contant.
Aperiodic Function: An aperiodic function is a
mathematical function that lacks any repeating pattern or
periodicity, with no discernible cycle or interval of repetition.
MATHEMATICAL THEORY
The phenomena of periodic functions occur quite frequently
in mathematics, physics and engineering applications.
Therefore, it is an important practical problem to represent
the corresponding periodic functions in terms of simple
periodic functions such as sine and cosine. In this work, we
consider the Fourier series expansion of s trigonometric sine
sinusoidal periodic function: y(x,t) = a sin (kx + wt), which is
acting within the permitted region of space: -π < x < π. The
periodic function could be the description of motion of
some particle of mass, m with energy, E moving under the
influence of some finite potential field, V.
FOURIER SERIES EXPANSION
t-J
We are applying the Fourier series expansion to convert
the sine periodic wave y(x,t) which is traveling in the
negative x-direction. The wave is given by:
(3.1)
Note that the wave characteristics are: a (amplitude, m),
w (angular velocity), k (wave number, rad/m), x (distance,
m) and t (time, s).
In this project work, we want to conevert the function (3.1)
which is in classical domain to a function in the frequency-
time domain F{y(x,t)}. That is:
t-J
EVALUATION OF THE EULER COEFFICIENTS
The Euler coefficients given in (3.3) are
defined as follows:
i
EVALUATION OF THE EULER COEFFICIENTS
The period of the oscillating particle may be taken as
hence, we get:

DISCUSSION OF RESULTS
For a clear understanding and better interpretations,
the information provided in Tables 4.1 - 4.10 are
figuratively shown in 4.1 - 4.6 on my project report.
The figures in the tables are too bogus, and hence,
they will be very difficult to interpret.
