Constipation Protocol
After surgery, you may experience constipation. This is usually due to several factors such as anesthesia,
pain medications, and limited mobility after surgery.
‘The key to minimizing this problem after surgery is to drink 8 glasses of water daily, and walk around the
house as much as you can comfortably.
It is recommended that you take a stool softener every day until your habits return to normal, which is
usually within a week or two after surgery.
The following items can be found at most local pharmacies and can be purchased over the counter.
. Stool softeners of your choice can be taken daily as directed on the box.
1. Decusate Sodium
2. Pericolace
3. Senokot
+ After 3 days of no results, you may take Milk of Magnesia as directed.
+ After 4 days of no result, you may try either Fleets enema or suppository.
+ After S days of no result, you may try 1 bottle of Magnesium Citrate, Refrigerate and then drink
‘A bottle, If no result, you may drink the other % of the bottle in 5 to 6 hours. CAUTION: This
medication should be taken infrequently. It can cause abdominal cramping, diarrhea, and discomfort.
