ABSTRACT
For this excel project, we use a dataset that contains the
amount of rainfall for each district in every state in India of the
year [Link] is taken from kaggle . The dataset contains 642
rows and 19 columns in which 2 are categorical and the rest are
discrete .We are given the state and district names along with
the amount of rainfall in each month, season and the entire year
.
In this project we interpret the given data using bar charts,
comparing seasonal rainfalls in districts of each state and also
the annual rainfall of our country . We use functions like
average for this analysis.
Through these bar graphs we can easily find where the rainfall is
high and low in each seasons for all districts in a state .We can
also have a quick comparison between the states of our country
.Also from these graphs we can have a clear cut idea of rainfall
distribution all throughout our country.
CHAPTER 1
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Rainfall also called precipitation is a natural feature of the
earths’ weather system .It is one of the climatological data
which is widely analyzed for a long time .Analysis of Rainfall
data is important as it facilitates policy decisions regarding the
cropping pattern ,sowing date , constructions of roads and
providing drinking water to urban and rural areas .Rainfall data
mainly consists of annual and seasonal rainfall data. Annual
rainfall is defined as the sum of daily rainfall in a year or in other
words, it is sum of rainfall in all twelve months.
Seasonal rainfall is defined as the sum of daily rainfall in a
particular season of the year or in other word s , it is the sum of
rainfall in specified months of the year .Rainfall data are used
for forecasting tropical cyclones , monitoring soil moisture
conditions and freshwater availability , and monitoring flood
and drought conditions , landslide activity , crop yields and
water-related illnesses. Access to accurate estimates of
precipitation can improve our understanding of growing seasons
or indicate where international organizations agencies should
deliver aid .
1.2 AIMS
To find the districts with highest and lowest seasonal
rainfalls of all the given states in India by plotting the
graphs of seasonal rainfall of all the districts
To find the states with highest and lowest annual rainfalls
in India by plotting the graphs of annual rainfalls of all the
states in India
Comparing graphs to analysis rainfall rate.
1.3 DATA DESCRIPTION
The data set given to us is of the amount of rainfall (in cm) in
different districts of all the states and union territories of India in
the year 2001. It consists of 642 rows and 19 columns.
Out of 19 columns, 2 are categorical data and the rest are
continuous data.
Column 1 contains the names of all the states and union
territories in India. Column 2 consists of the names of all the
districts in all states and union territories in India. Column 3-14
contains the monthly rainfall in cm. Column 15-18 contains the
seasonal rainfall in cm. And column 19 contains the annual
rainfall in cm.
CHAPTER 2
2.1 DATA PREPROCESSING
Our initial data set contained 19 columns. There were no
missing datas.
In order to reach our aim of plotting the annual rainfall of
each state, we added an extra column where the annual
rainfall of the states were found.
Initially, the datas of the states West Bengal and Maharashtra
was separated. We combined the datas of West Bengal and
that of Maharastra together and plotted the graphs.
2.2 METHODOLOGY
AIM 1
We achieved this aim by plotting graphs of seasonal
rainfalls of all districts in each state using bar graph .
AIM 2
We achieved this aim by plotting graph of annual
Rainfall of all states in India using bar graph.
AIM 3
We achieved this aim of comparison of rainfall rate using
bar graphs .
A Bar Chart or Bar graph is a chart or graph that presents
categorial data with rectangular bars with heights or
lengths proportional to the values that they represent. The
bars are plotted vertically.
Steps to insert a chart:
Select the data-> insert-> charts-> bar chart
2.3 SOFTWARE SPECIFICATION
We used Excel version 2105 (build14026.20308).
This build fixes several small bugs, including one in Outlook that
caused users to experience an unexpected property change
prompt when closing a message they had replied to or
forwarded, and other for the entire Office suite in which Office
crashed when reopening certain files.
This build fixes a variety of small bugs and includes security
updates. Among the bugs fixed are one in Excel in which extra
entries appeared in the Excel Add-in list for some users, one in
Outlook that caused it to close when interacting with Outlook
Mail or Calendar Views, and one for the entire Office suite that
caused a performance regression on opening SyncBacked files.
2.4 DATA ANALYSIS RESULTS
State with highest rainfall: Meghalaya
State with second highest rainfall: Kerala
State with lowest rainfall: Rajasthan
State with second lowest rainfall: Haryana
CHAPTER 3
3.1 Conclusion
From this project, we are able to identify the states with
lowest and highest rainfalls. Haryana and rajasthan having
the lowest rainfall (614.56 cm and 581.59 cm) may have
drought problems in the near future. Serious methods have
to taken to make sure that these areas utilises the
maximum of the rainfall they receive. Rain water harvesting
or ensuring maximum rainfall precipitation are few
methods to ensure this. The states with maximum rainfall
are Meghalaya and Kerala (3682.84 cm and 2937.39 cm).
Here too, if no careful methods are taken, these places may
get affected by flood.
