OBJECTIVES
“Dream Occupation” is a study conducted in the neighbourhood of mine to find out who were all able to
achieve their dreams and who weren’t able to do so. Everyone has dreams ever since they are young but how
many of them are actually able to follow them? Some achieve them with no regrets while others don’t get the
opportunity to achieve them. In this light, I have taken a survey on the same with the people around me. I
conversed with them and found out their opinions and state regarding the topic. Through this interaction I
have analyzed the factors that helped them achieve their dreams and the factors that had stopped them to
pursue. The project involves preparing a questionnaire and a report of the same.
ACTION PLAN
The entire project has been fulfilled following different steps and consultations with teachers, peers and
parents. The project aims at achieving a clear understanding of the lives around me by visiting their houses
and conversing with them. I visited my neighbourhood with a pre-planned questionnaire and asked them
about their dream occupations and whether they have achieved them or not. If not, what had stopped them
from pursuing their dreams. Along with that I have acquired a good proficiency in general English speaking
and methods of interacting with people. For the project I interviewed various people in different context and
found out if people have achieved their dreams and the situation during the past times. I came to know about
the difficulties and challenges in achieving their dream occupation and found out the situation of their life.
REPORT
“Dream Occupation” is a study conducted in the neighbourhood of mine to find out who were all able to
achieve their dreams and who weren’t able to do so. I have conducted a survey in my neighbourhood to
assess various categories such as, who were able to achieve their dreams and who weren’t able to do so, how
many people held regrets and how many didn’t, what were the reasons that stopped them from pursuing their
dreams, etc. This study was conducted with the help of a questionnaire. It included questions related to their
career, their dreams, lifestyle and status of living.
Out of this survey I have analysed the following categorises:
Dreams achieved or not?
Reasons for not being able to achieve?
Do they regret not achieving?
CATEGORY 1- DREAMS ACHIEVED OR NOT?
ANALYSIS:
In the questionnaire, the questions asked for this particular comparison was, “What is your current
occupation?” and “What was your dream occupation?” These questions helped analyse their dream
occupation and current occupation which finally led to categorising how many of the respondents finally had
pursed their dream occupation and how many hadn’t pursued. From this chart we can recognise that how
many people have achieved their dream occupations, and how many haven’t. The percentage of those who
have achieved their dream occupation is 43% and those who haven’t achieved their dream occupation is
57%. As we can observe from the percentages derived from the ratio from the chart, the percentage of those
who have achieved their dream occupation is comparatively less than those who have not achieved their
dream occupation.
CATEGORY 2- REASONS FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO ACHIEVE?
ANALYSIS:
In this questionnaire, the question asked for this particular comparison was, “What stopped you from
pursuing your dream occupation?” This question helped analyse the reason why the respondents who had not
been able to achieve their dream wasn’t able to do so. From this chart we are able to analyse the different
reasons on why the respondents were not able to achieve their dreams. The percentage of those who didn’t
pursue their dreams do to family situations is 59%, those who weren’t able to pursue due to marks and their
decision is 12% each. Other reasons would be 17%. From these percentages we can observe that respondents
who were not able to pursue their dreams were mostly due to family situations, specifically due to financial
situations of the family or consent from family to pursue their dream line of career. Other factors like marks
in public exams and their own personal decisions also played a major factor in their road to achieving their
dream.
CATEGORY 3- DO THEY REGRET NOT ACHIEVING?
ANALYSIS:
In this questionnaire, the question asked for this particular comparison was, “Do you regret not achieving
your dream, or are you contempt with your current occupation?” This question helped analyse if respondents
regretted not pursuing their dream occupation or if they are satisfied with their current line of occupation.
From this chart we are able to analyse the factor if they are regretting not achieving their dream or if they are
satisfied with their current occupation. The survey and charts also show that there are respondents who tend
to have mixed feelings about this topic as well. The percentage of those who regret not achieving their dream
is 18% and those who are contempt with their current situation is 47% and the percentage of those
respondents who have mixed feelings is about 35%. From the stated percentages, we can observe that those
respondents who are contempt with their current occupation is comparatively more than those who have
mixed feelings and those who regret it.
CONCLUSION:
In this survey based on the questionnaire, not only the questions stated on the 3 main comparisons were
asked to the respondents. Other questions also included, whether they wanted their future generation to
pursue their dreams that went unaccomplished or if they wanted them to pursue their own dream and what
ways do they support their future generations to help achieve their dreams. In the first category, we can
observe that many respondents don’t end up pursuing their dream occupation than the respondents who have
achieved them. In the second category, we learn/observe the reasons why many respondents didn’t end up
pursuing their dreams. In the third category, we can observe if respondents are satisfied with their current
lifestyle or regret not pursuing their dream occupation.

REFLECTIONS
For the project, I visited and interviewed some people of my neighbourhood and asked questions that
included questions related to their career, their dreams, lifestyle and status of living. All of them shared their
life experiences with me, and I drafted them in my notes.
This project helped us assess and learn various reasons why people don’t end up achieving or pursuing them
dream occupations. It also helped in observing if they are contempt with their current lifestyle or are they
heart-wrenched with regrets.
