Read the following questions and do accordingly.

1. Write a citation for the following book using different citation styles:

Title: Tower in the Sky

Author: Hiwot Tefera
Publisher: Addis Ababa University Press
Date Published: 2020

 APA Tefera, H. (2020). Tower in the Sky. Addis Ababa University Press.
 Harvard Tefera, H, 2020. Tower in the sky. Addis Ababa: Addis Ababa University Press
 Chicago Tefera Hiwot. Tower in the sky. Addis Ababa: Addis Ababa University Press, 2020
 MLA _Teffera, Hiwot. Tower in the sky. Addis Ababa: Addis Ababa University Press, 2020.

2. Read the following text and find out the cause, consequence and course of Action.

The Growing Impact of Plastic Waste

In recent years, the use of plastic has increased dramatically worldwide. The main cause is the
convenience and low cost of plastic packaging, which has made it the preferred material for
many products. As a result, plastic waste has grown significantly. Much of this waste is not
recycled and ends up in landfills or oceans. This contributes to environmental pollution, harming
wildlife and marine ecosystems. For example, sea turtles and birds often mistake plastic for food,
leading to injury or death. Plastic also leaches harmful chemicals into the environment,
degrading ecosystems and water sources. To address this issue, several actions should be taken.
Governments and companies must collaborate to reduce plastic production and promote eco-
friendly alternatives. Recycling programs should be improved, and public awareness about
plastic waste should be raised. Stricter regulations can also reduce single-use plastics and
encourage reusable options. These steps can help mitigate environmental damage and promote
sustainability.

Cause: ___The main cause is the convenience and low cost of plastic packaging, which has
made it a more preferable material.

2
Consequence: ___As a result much of the waste that ends up in landfills and oceans
contributes to environmental pollution, harming wildlife and marine ecosystems.

Course of Action: __Governments and companies should collaborate on improving

recycling programs, and raising awareness about reducing plastic waste.

3. When referencing an article, what key information should you include in your citation? Find
and write one example of a referenced article.

Information should include:

__Author(s), Issue Number, Journal Name, Article Title, Volume, Pages, Publication Date

Example: Brooks SM (2023) Implementing the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) to

Identify and Refer Adults with Depression. Int J Depress Anxiety 6:040. [Link]/10.23937/2643-
4059/1710040

4. What are the key differences between qualitative and quantitative research, and in what
situations would each method be most appropriate? Give the most suitable data collection
methods for each.
Qualitative Research:

Purpose: Explores concepts, opinions, and experiences.

Data: Non-numerical (e.g., interviews, focus groups).
When Used: Understanding underlying motivations or behaviors.
Methods: Interviews, focus groups, open-ended surveys.
Quantitative Research:

Purpose: Tests hypotheses, measures variables, and quantifies results.

Data: Numerical (e.g., statistics, graphs).
When Used: Determining trends or relationships.
Methods: Experiments, structured surveys, observations.
5. How can research findings be applied to real-world problems?
Research findings can be applied to real-world problems by translating the knowledge gained from
studies into practical situations, interventions, or policies that address specific issues. This can be

done by collaborating with stake holders implement and test the effectiveness of these findings in the
real-world.

This implementation and test of effectiveness could be done by the following steps:
1) Identify the problem
2) Review existing research
3) Adapt findings to context
4) Develop practical solutions
5) Collaborate with stakeholders
6) Pilot testing and evaluation
7) Dissemination (spreading) and communication
