A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 6
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to do the following with at least
80% level of accuracy:
a. Describe the distinguishing characteristics of each group of vertebrates.
b. Appreciate the importance of learning what are vertebrates and their
classifications.
c. Differentiate between various vertebrates based on their characteristics.
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Animals: Characteristics of Vertebrates
Reference: C0_02_Science6_Module4
Materials: Laptop and printed materials
III. Procedures
Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity
A. Preliminary Drill
Prayer (Our father prayer)
Greetings
Checking of attendance
Classroom management
B. Review
(The teacher will have a recap about
the previous lesson.)
Class, what we have discussed last “About the reproduction in plants”
meeting? “Sexually and asexually”
What are the two main ways that
plants can reproduce?
C. Motivation
(The teacher will show a picture of (Answers may vary)
animals and let the students identify
which of the animals can be found in
the locality.)
D. Activity
Instructions: Fill in the blanks to
complete the names of the animal
groups described in each question.
1. What animals live in water with
gills, fins and scales? Fish
F___h
2. What animals with backbones
called? Vertebrates

3. What animals with wings, feathers
that love to fly? Birds

4. What group of vertebrates is a
dog? Mammals

5. What group of vertebrates is a
frog? Amphibians

6. What group of vertebrates is
snake? Reptiles

E. Analysis
Vertebrates are animals with
backbone while invertebrates are
animals with no backbone.
They can be oviparous (hatched (Pupils listen attentively)
from egg) and viviparous (born alive
with their parents.
Group of Vertebrates:
Mammals - are warm blooded
animals that are born alive or
viviparous.
Fish - are cold-blooded animals
covered with scales.
Birds - are warm-blooded animals
hatched from egg or oviparous.
Amphibians - are cold-blooded
animals hatched from egg
Reptiles - are cold-blooded
vertebrates hatched from egg.
F. Abstraction
(The teacher will ask the student to
give a summary or understanding
about the lesson)
1. What are vertebrates and (Pupils will answer the questions)
invertebrates?
2. Give the 5 groups of vertebrates?
3. What do you call to those
animals that are hatched from
egg? How about those animals
that born alive with their
parents?
G. Application
Vertebrate Characteristic Sorting:
Divide the class into two groups.
Each group will be given a set of (Answers may vary)
cards with different vertebrates
group and characteristics.
The task is to sort the characteristic
cards under the correct vertebrate
group cards.
IV. Evaluation
Direction: Read the following questions carefully and choose the letter that best describes the
distinguishing characteristics or classification of vertebrates.
