Safe Dose Calculations
Example 1:
Doctor orders Tylenol for a 98 lb. child with a fever (from 10- 15 mg/kg) , Q.I.D
What is the safest dose for this child per day ? Round to nearest tenth.
What is the maximum safest dose? Round to nearest hundered
Answer :
Wt. → convert from lb. to kg
→ 98 ÷ 2.2 = 44.545 kg
Safest dose (minimum) = 10 × 44.545 = 445.45 mg per dose
Total 4 doses = 4 ×445.45 =1.781 g ~ 2 g.
Maximum safest = 15 ×44.545 = 668.175
Total 4 doses = 4 ×668.175 =2.672 g ~ 2.7 g.
