Answer:

R  250 mg.
N  125 mg.
Q  5 ml or 1 teaspoon.

 × 5 ml (1 teaspoon) = 10 ml = 2 teaspoons.

Example 5:

your patient receives 500 mg P.O, B.I.D , You

give………… …….….Capsules per day?.

 × 1 capsule = 2 capsule /dose

 2 capsule × 2 times per day = 4 capsules/ daily.

Safe Dose Calculations

Example 1:

Doctor orders Tylenol for a 98 lb. child with a fever (from 10- 15 mg/kg) , Q.I.D

What is the safest dose for this child per day ? Round to nearest tenth.

What is the maximum safest dose? Round to nearest hundered

Answer :

Wt. → convert from lb. to kg

→ 98 ÷ 2.2 = 44.545 kg

 Safest dose (minimum) = 10 × 44.545 = 445.45 mg per dose

Total 4 doses = 4 ×445.45 =1.781 g ~ 2 g.

 Maximum safest = 15 ×44.545 = 668.175

Total 4 doses = 4 ×668.175 =2.672 g ~ 2.7 g.
