1.
SCOPE
The purpose of performing the following tests is to control and measure any changes to the tank
body and foundation level, and also to prove the integrity of the storage tank body.
APPLICABLE CODES AND STANDARDS
1. API 653
2. API 650
3. ASME 5
TEST STAGES
1. Visual Inspection
2. Hydrotest
WORK STAGES
1. Confirm that the tank is leak-free and tight, including nozzles, manways, shell seams, etc.
2. Filling water - Fresh water without any impurities must be used.
3. Visual Inspection
4. Hydro Test
2. HYDRO TEST PROCEDURE
1. Water must be filled slowly until it reaches 1/3 of the Hydrotest (HT) level of the tank.
2. The filling will then stop for 6 hours, and the water level at the reference point will be recorded.
3. Continue the filling operation up to the water level reaching 2/3 (HT) of the required Hydrotest
level.
4. The filling will then stop for 12 hours, and levels will be measured and checked.
5. Filling will then proceed at the same rate until the water level reaches the required height.
6. The filled tanks will be maintained for 24 hours with consistent level. The tank can be off-loaded
before calibration for service.
7. As filling of tanks, according to mentioned method will be done gradually and in steps, it prevents
non-ununiform settlements
8. During hydrotest and after finishing of each an of filling steps or emptying stages.
3. CHECKS DURING HYDROTEST
Checking will be made on following.
1. Settlement monitoring
2. All shell welding joints below liquid level.
3. Corner joints which visually check for water tightness.
4. ASSESSMENT AND REPORT
Gauge measurements and visual inspection results will be assessed and reported together with
measurement records.
5. CLEANING
The tanks shall be completely drained immediately after hydrotest.
