Impact of Social Support on Mental Health and Self-esteem in University Students
Significance of the Topic
The topic statement “impact of social support on mental health and self-esteem in
university students” will add significant addition to the field of social science in general and
specifically this study will measure the student’s mental health. University life is full of
challenges. Previous research studies showed that university students are more likely to face
mental health issues when they go to university. These mental health issues also cause low self-
esteem, lack of confidence, and social anxiety in students. To improve their mental health and
self-esteem, the current study focuses on the impact of social support on university students to
improve their mental health and self-esteem. This topic is unique in terms of the combination of
variables.
Objectives
The objectives of this study will be:
1. To assess the relationship between social support, mental health, and self-esteem in
university students.
2. To examine the impact of social support on mental health and self-esteem in university
students.
3. To investigate the mean differences in terms of demographic variables such as gender
and residence in university students across the study variables.
Hypothesis
1. There will be a relationship between social support, mental health, and self-esteem in
university students.
2. Social support will negatively predict mental health among university students.
3. Social support will positively predict self-esteem among university students.
4. There will be a gender difference in self-esteem among university students.
Data Collection Method
In this study, a quantitative research design based on the survey research technique will
be used. The data will be collected by using standardized research questionnaires on social
support, mental health, and self-esteem in university students. The research participants will fill
up the questionnaire.
